Thats the thing about generational though. You get nominated as generational before your career starts. And unless you did , it doesn't matter how good you were. If you weren't declared generational before your career started , you won't be generational. It's not something you transcend to. If you could transcend to it , many of the players in that list would have.

Then what are we [quietly] discussing? We don't even need to watch him play if he's already got it in the bag. This will save me so much time.

Crosby had 96 points after 56 games in his 19 year old season, in a significantly lower scoring league
Bedard turned 19 three months ago.

And it's not true that the lockout + 1 was significantly lower scoring than now. It was a new era , before goalies or anything adapted. Hence most likely why Crosby never reached his 2nd year point total again

He is producing like he will be the next Nick Suzuki

Extremely disapointing play and career so far 80 games in

"Extremely" ? That's going too far. It hasn't been THAT bad. But we're at the point now where even as Hawks fan I'm willing to admit I'm disappointed. I was expecting more tbh, mainly I was expecting a noticeable improvement from year 1 to year 2...and instead I see much of the same. He's definitely a worthy #1OA pick/legit top line caliber talent. But as for "generational" ? That ship sails further away with each passing game. The #1 thing that surprises me the most is how difficult it appears to be for him to score goals/effectively utilize his elite wrist shot at the NHL level. He either can't get it off or when he does he's not beating NHL goalies as often as I was hoping for. Its one thing for him to be poor at the dot, weak defensively, lacking a complete 200 ft game, etc.....But i never thought I'd be sitting here criticizing him for his lack of offense/goal scoring. Goes to show you just how rare and special a true generational talent is. Guys like Crosby, McDavid, etc. You know it when you see it....and watching Bedard i just don't see it. I will say this though....his skating has improved/he looks faster this year. And despite this recent scoring/points drought his playmaking/vision/passing ability is outstanding. Could be much worse. He could be a bust. Which he certainly isn't. But I'd be lying to you if i said i wasn't disappointed thus far.

Look, I'm a sharks fan so it would give me great pleasure if Bedard never lived up to the hype, but in the two games against us so far this year, he hit 2-3 posts and created a bunch of high danger chances. Feels to me like he's just starting the year slow. I'd wait until May to evaluate his second season, and anyway he's 19 years old. In a half decade he still won't be able to rent a car. Plenty of time to figure it out.

You made whiskey happy

He's going to be an incredible player but it's better for his sake to stop with the generational talk and how people are disappointed. He may just need some extra time to develop into a superstar. Still only 19. I actually really like him he seems humble and down to earth.

All true, lots of time for him to improve. Just sayin' that(especially when you factor in his prolonged slump to end last season and combine that with how he's looked so far here in year 2) I'm disappointed in what I've seen up til now. REALLY hoping things change as the season progresses. Still very early.

Can't complain about anything off the ice, he really does seem like a genuinely nice young man. Humble indeed. Zero arrogance or entitlement. Kind and polite yet doesn't seem at all fake. Even more the reason why I want to see him become GREAT.

Thanks for the reply.

I haven’t watched him play this season but found it puzzling that he’s only at 3 goals.
He was invisible against the Jets, that's the only time I watched him this year.
After world juniors I posted and said nothing really stood out about him to me other than his shot but many posters brought up his age, which was a fair point. And it's also a fair point now. He needs at least another couple years before we see what he can turn into.

He is falling behind the Crosby/Mcdavid trajectory. I really thought or hoped he would take his game to the next level like they did. But he is still only 19. Malkin as well finished second in scoring and MVP voting his sophomore season. So bedard is for sure dissapointing as of right now.

What prolonged slump to end the season? When he returned from his injury february 15th, he went no longer then 2 games without a point and finished the last 29 games with 28 points. Even if you remove his big games from the equation, he still finished with 23 points in 28 games.

He’s still leading his team in scoring. By the end of the season he will be around the PPG mark and all will be good

He was the best prospect since mcdavid, but I don’t recall him at that level.
