Pack win 4-2. Emberson and the D in general had one of their better games I thought. I don't like them scratching Skinner so I was glad to see him get in the game. I think he's better than half the guys that play above him. Oddly, I think Emberson played better away from Robertson. Not sure why. So no need to make any leaps there. Though, I think Vince said on his podcast that he thinks Robertson isn't that far behind Jones for playing some left side with the big club. I don't think I agree based on what I've seen so far in the Pack games. Robertson is not even close to dominant out there. I dont need him to show offensive flair, which he tries to do a bunch. I'd rather just see him simplify his game - become super stout in his own zone and make simple outlets. That's alI I want from him right now. He needs to show he can be a rock. He needs to play with far more snarl. He's gotta take the Lindgren or Sauer trajectory. But right now, he's trying to be a bit more of a hybrid. I don't think that's his future.

I know Gettinger scored but I'm not a big fan. I'd rather see more Rueschoff. Rempe, if he's not going to play, should go play in the ECHL or some other league.

Bobby Trivigno had 1+1, played a decent game. Not a ton of ice time but he plays a headier game than some of the other forwards, despite his size. At one point he was in a puck battle with Dylan McIlrath and that was really funny given their enormous size difference and given McIlrath's NYR history.

Rydahl had a goal that was a rebound off of Trivigno taking it off the back wall to the net. Rydahl looked decent but possibly injured before end of game. Khodorenko also injured and was out second half of the game.

In general, the forwards showed more cohesion and offensive flow in this game.

Cuylle's playing pretty well, would love to see him take another step and play a bit more dominantly. But he's noticeable out there.

Not a big fan of Welinsky. Sure he's got some offense, but he's not a great defender at this level and has a tendency to make some bonehead plays with the puck.

Henriksson maybe had his best game as well. Had a breakaway off a turnover but didn't convert. But he's not a dumb player. I just don't know that he can take the necessary steps to become dominant in the A let alone go above this level.

Or even back in Seattle, if they have an OA slot?
maybe better coaching(than Jax)? and leadership role?
Rempe's skating is ridiculously choppy, even for a big guy. Like is he skating or is he cutting ice like a Sous-Chef.

I caught up on the game and as usual agree with gravy9. I thought Domingue was very good when he needed to be and he handles the puck very well. Ben Harper with an ugly turnover with that almost resulted in a goal with the Bears pressing at the end of the game. I'm not sure he's as good as Tinordi. Hillman had several good offensive plays and looked better than I expected.

Robertson is day to day so that shouldn't be a big issue. I heard Vince M. talk about Robertson and he might be the first call up but I think that says more about the other defensemen than Robertson. I agree with gravey9 and have not been overwhelmed by Robertson when I have seen him and I think the 4 assists are very misleading as to his offensive ability.

The lines were:
Brodzinski--Cuylle--Smith
Fritz-Gettinger--Pajuniemi
Korczak-Henriksson-Elson
Rydahl-Khodorenko-Trivigno

It seemed like we had heavy doses of the first two lines. Perhaps it was because those players also had the PP and PK time.

But Khodorenko was hurt in the 3rd period and didn't return and Rydahl also left the bench in the third so lines scrambled in the period.

My thoughts about the forwards:

Cuylle looks good, not great but good. He has some offensive skill. Gets secondary assist on Brodzinski PP goal.
Pajuniemi had quiet game.
Gettinger with a nice tip in but he's a mediocre AHL player.
Korczak showed some good speed and made several good defensive plays. I'd like to see more of him.
gravey9 correct that Henriksson had a very good third period with several good chances including a breakaway. He's very quick. He needs to play more He played left wing, not center.
Rydahl with the first goal banging home a rebound of a Trivigno shot. He's a bull. I think I like him more than Carpenter.
Trivigno had a good game. What a motor he has. I have no idea why he sat out 3 of the first 4 games. He needs to play.

Rempe needs to play somewhere.
I have watched a lot of Reuschhoff the last two years and he has some ability. The coaches haven't put him in a position to show off his skill, usually on the 3rd or 4th line. NHL is a long reach. But I like him more than Gettinger and Khodorenko. I think this is his 3rd scratch of the year.

Pack played well enough to win but not great. A very good Charlotte team comes in tomorrow night so that will be a big test.

I feel as though Robertson is the kinda guy that plays at a similar level across most leagues. Can probably hold his own in an NHL game at least as well as Hajek can. Appreciate the recaps.

On BMB, he definitely seems like a trade candidate for a stronger OHL team looking to boost their top6 C depth. Doubt that gets facilitated this year though, being THE guy for a wack team is great for development, worked really well with Othmann.

Not regarding Robertson specifically but I totally agree, there are some players that dominate the AHL but can’t do a darned thing in the NHL. And then some players who are B+ players in the AHL and then B+ players in the NHL too. Weird.

The biggest jump guys have to make from AHL or any other professional league for that matter is speed--both how fast guys move and how fast they process the game. If you're just an average skater at the AHL level want to have any chance in the NHL you damn well better process the game at a really high level. Or, if you are a great skater, you might be able to overcome some "IQ" deficiencies and at least have some role.

Time Gettinger is a decent AHL player but has shown he doesn't think the game fast enough to cover up for his lack of foot speed in the NHL. Gauthier is a guy who has 100 NHL games to his credit and will likely stick around for several more years because his skating is good, even if he's not a particularly "smart" player. And there are all sorts of shades in between. I remember being adamant that Jarkko Immonen's offensive instincts would be more than enough to overcome his average skating, but we never really got to see.

Of course there are all sorts of other variables as well, but the "speed" things are, to me, the biggest things that cause guys to make it or fail in the NHL.

Game going to OT. Charlotte scored on the PP. Hartford killed off one of the penalties of the 5-3 on 3 but Checkers scored on the 5-4.
Hillman having a real tough night.
Welinski scores in OT. Hartford wins. Garand look great.

Wolfpack win 3-2 in OT. They played a very strong third and OT, despite Charlotte coming back on them. Kinda got screwed with some penalties. Killed off 2 5-3's in the third. Dylan Garand played really really well. Made some spectacular east-west saves. I think he needs to work a bit on his rebound control. There were a few instances of him just leaving some juicy ones in front of him that turned into chaos. But he was very very good otherwise.

I only caught the third period. But they're def playing better. Emberson is playing better. D in general seemed pretty decent. Forwards looked mostly decent.

Pajuniemi scored his 3rd on a tip after an outstanding forecheck shift by the Pack. Pajuniemi looks a bit bigger to me this year. Seems more stout. Not getting pushed around. There's still hope for him having an NHL career, but he's gotta start being noticable every shift. Wish he had one more gear. That would make a big difference Reuschoff was back in and he looked ok in the limited time I saw him.

But the story in this game was Garand. And the decent D. Checkers have some dangerous players for this level and I thought the goaltending was great.

At one point, early 3rd, AHL app showed Pack up 2-0, on Elson goal.
Disallowed, i guess,
as later, app showed Pack up 2-1, but only after game had been tied, before Paju goal
Glad they hung in, and won, missing Gauth, Rydahl, Robertson.
And that Garand got 1st win of season

Pretty cool to see Garand playing well, two good ones, one not so good. He's going to play this entire season at 20 years old, so I'm sure there will be some struggles, just showing he can hang would be great.

We could really use a cheap young backup, if that is sometime next season, or even in the third season of his ELC.

According to Alex Thomas twitter, Domingue starts in goal, Robertson still out on defense with Giutarri back in (didn't mention who comes out but according to the lineup it's Skinner) and Rempe and Rydahl back in with Reuschhoff and Trivigno out. The latter two have been scratched for several games this season. Whelan is playing. He seems to be a KK favorite.
