Pack down 1-0. Garand in goal. Pack give up another power play goal. Reuschhoff and Rydahl scratched. I think Rydahl may be injury. Henriksson and Trivigno in. Korczak scratched for second straight game. Same six on defense.

The Hartford feed didn't work in the period. So much for the FreView.

I want to believe that this team will be okay this season. Meeting their objectives and helping players develop. Might continue to see them struggling in the short term due to many new faces.
Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Was at the game last night. I left after the 2nd. Sloppy game. The better effort was the Friday game. No one stood out. It's early in the season and the I'm sure things will settle in, but this team will likely be on the outside looking in. Rydahl must be hurt cause a few guys on hartford aren't great and should for sure not be playing over him.

I only watched the first period Friday night on my IPhone in a hotel room and then the highlights and the last two periods Saturday night so I would trust MrAlmost more than me.

Here are some very early thoughts:

Playing the Kids -- I have been complaining about the coaches relying too much on the veterans so I was happier with the lineups where kids were playing with veterans. Let's hope that continues.

Goalies -- I don't think Louie let in an easy goal as Charlotte doubled up the Pack on shots. Garland looked good only giving up two power play goals. The goal tending looks promising.

Defense -- After watching Reunanen and Jones run the PP the last two years it's clear this year is going to be painful. Wielinski and Robertson ran the PP and neither one is particularly good at it. On one PP Charlotte had several shorthanded chances. Lots of defensive turnovers Friday, Saturday seemed better. But no one really stood out. Robertson took unnecessary penalties in both games. I'm sure there are some who looked at the box score and saw that he had two assists but he really didn't do much on either. One was feeding Pajuniemi on the wing for his rocket. The other was not the Gauthier goal where Gauthier really did the work. I like Robertson and want him to succeed because I don't think the Rangers will be able to afford Lindgren next year and certainly not the year after and Robertson is the most likely replacement. But I think we can see the player he is. Defensively reliable but doesn't really stand out in any way. If the Rangers have injuries on defense I would be concerned about having to bring up the Hartford D.

Forwards -- The best line both nights was Brodzinski-Cuylle-Gauthier. Cuylle had a couple of opportunities and was physical. He led the team with 8 SOG. Brodzinski is a smart AHL player who makes his wingers better. Gauthier was Gauthier, one of the most frustrating players I have seen. He created several good chances (5 SOG) but was only able to finish one. I thought Paujuniemi looked good Friday, not as much Saturday although still one on the better forwards. Trivigno scratched Friday and played fourth line Saturday with 3 SOG. Not sure I understand the scratch. In Friday OT Gettinger was one of the first three. And it was over quickly as he lost the puck in the offensive zone and then as Charlotte came back and was criss crossing, Gettinger failed to stay with his man who was allowed to walk in alone and score. I think this is his last year in the organization. 1 SOG in two games. I thought Rydahl looked good on the PK Friday. The Hartford view of the AHL Freeview had technical problems Saturday night so I didn't hear why he was scratched Saturday. Korczak didn't play either game. I'm not sure what the game plan is with him but scratching him doesn't seem like a good plan. I was excited when the Rangers signed Khodorenko and thought he might be a steal. I was wrong. Henriksson scratched Friday and didn't look like he played much Saturday. Reuschhoff with 2 SOG on Friday and then scratched.

I think this team has potential with solid goaltending and some offensive potential. The special teams are a problem and the defense may be pedestrian.

Gettinger might (?) be playing through an injury.
He took a (I think it was Wielinski) shot from the point in one of the earlier PP in game 1. The good thing was he was showing net-front presence.

Gettinger has been playing through an "injury" the past 3 years... I am baffled why they brought him back in the first place.

Lindbom to Jacksonville, their season begins Saturday
He is the first NYR property, of the season, to be assigned to Jax/ECHL

we'll know soon if Jax returns Boyko to Kelowna WHL, which is very likely
Boyko still appears on Jax's pre-season roster, but also is listed at Kelowna's site

Another thing we all do here. Every season "bro the Pack are gonna be lit" and after one losing streak, everyone think's they're the worst team ever assembled.

Two seasons didn’t have AHL playoffs with Covid, but they have made the playoffs once in the past ten years, it’s not really going out on a limb saying they will be bad again.

I don't understand signing Boyko to have him go back to junior. Now they have their three prospect goalies all with their ELCs starting at the same time.

Hartford Wolf Pack (NYR) – William Cuylle, LW

While he projects more like a middle-six forward in the NHL, Cuylle is going to cause some damage against the AHL’s best. He’s big, has a fantastic shot and isn’t afraid to get under the skin of anyone. He’s up for the challenge, and as the Rangers look to be long-term contenders, they can be patient will Cuylle.

anyone ECHL savvy can explain what this means?
Is it an inactive list to meet roster limits?

have seen that and wondered for a few years now

Henault is LD, 21, was Cuylle's teammate last 3 OHL seasons at Windsor,
Signed by Pack in summer,

You can put two players on reserve, which means they don't count against the roster limit or the salary cap. I think they can also still skate with the team, they just can't dress.

If you put them on injured reserve they have to stay there for I think 14 days and they can't participate in activities. A guy on "regular" reserve could be banged up but could also be stashed there for other, non-injury reasons.

They are scratching those guys ?
We're only two games in, and Trivigno and Henriksson have each played one. The Rangers have a lot of prospects in Hartford right now, and coupled with the veterans that you just have to play to be competitive, it's inevitable that one or two prospects will have to sit each night. It's also hard to know in when a guy is banged up and has to sit when he's in the AHL since the coverage isn't great.

Korczak hasn't played yet. Honestly I don't know if he's ready for the AHL. I suggested he may go back to junior hockey or could end up in the ECHL. Hard to know where he's really at given he hasn't played, but in general it isn't surprising.

Just for reference the "prospect" forwards in Hartford include Cuylle, Rydahl, Henriksson, Rueschhoff, Rempe, Korczak, Trivigno, Pajuniemi, and Khodorenko. Then you have guys that also need to play like Gauthier, Fritz, Elson, Smith, Brodzinski, and Gettinger. The ECHL season started last night so maybe one or two guys move now and open things up a bit.

It's important to remember too that most of these guys are among the first callups in case of injury. So not only do they need to play to keep Hartford competitive, but they need to play so they are ready if they get called up.

There are a lot of competing needs and it's hard to balance them all.

if he's not gonna play he should go back to juniors for another year. he needs to play and its not like he dominated to the point that it would be a waste....echl works too but the kids should be playing somewhere

Yeah, and I don't think they'll keep him in Hartford just to have him ride the bench. I think if they feel he's not ready to play in Hartford they'll do something with him. I've had issues with how they use the kids in the past, but they don't ever just leave guys to rot. We'll see how it plays out.
