According to Cap Friendly Huska can choose to be UFA (UFA Group 6) because he will be 25 and will not have accrued enough playing time in the NHL.

Huska might not want to resign even if the Rangers are interested.
Oh, well if that's the case, then yeah I would think he'll probably look to try another organization.

Yeah Huska and both Pack Fs traded for in March (for Bitetto and Reunanen) will all be Group 6.
But may re-sign w NYR anyway

Another CBA fog question: is ECHL assignment rule different for Goalies? Isn't the case that only ELC players on NHL deals can be sent to ECHL? Or does that restriction relate to 1-way contracts? Thanks guys
I think it applies to goalies, too. I believe any of them can be loaned to an ECHL team with their permission, though. And the pay would be the same as in the AHL.

Last night was a repeat of the night before. Pack play reasonably well, shots even and a few breakdowns at the wrong time cost them the game. The first goal against is a shot Kinkaid stops but doesn't control the rebound and is put in. You'd like Kinkaid to stop that one. Goal two is Robertson carrying the puck into the neutral zone where he is surrounded by three Charlotte players and he makes a bad pass that is picked off and leads to a 3-1 where Kinkaid stopped the first shot but the rebound is put in. Bad play by Robertson. But still 2-0 heading into the third with a Pack PP. Greco gets the puck at the blue line and makes an unforced blind pass that is picked off. Just horrible. But the Pack get back and Charlotte comes in 3-3. The Pack defender pushes the Charlotte player to the outside and from a very sharp angle take s a back hander that Kinkaid doesn't stop. It is either one of the greatest backhanders in hockey history or just a horrible play by Kinkaid. The Pack score two late goals but fall short because of the Kinkaid horrible shorthanded goal.

The Pack really needs someone to step up.

Reuschhoff, Skinner and Pajuniemi scratched, the first two for the second game so maybe there are injuries involved.

The Pack come up with a big 4-3 overtime win to break the losing streak and stay in playoff contention. I only saw the goals on replay and read the action on the AHL website.

The Pack open the scoring with a nice play by Greco who chips the puck past the defenseman leading to a 2-1 with Khodorenko finding Jones who scores. But less than a minute late Greco -- who is like Trenton in that he gives and he takes -- covers up for Guitarri who jumps into the play but when Charlotte gets the puck Greco forgets he is playing defense and lunges for a puck that he misses leading to a 2-1 on which Charlotte scores. Towards the end of the first period the Pack are on the PK and lined up with 3 across the blue line in good condition except that Gettinger forgets that this is a hockey game and he lets his man take a pass and blow past him. Gettinger trips the forward (delayed penalty) and as the other defensemen adjust the Charlotte forward is able to get the puck to another forward who breaks in alone and beats Huska. The Pack are able to tie the score before the end of the period when Ronning makes a great pass from behind the goal line to a wide open Fritz to tie it up.

In the second the Pack take the lead when the Pack break in and on a ragged play Khodorenko finds the puck and gets it to a wide open Greco. Khodorenko is playing better lately. But the Pack let Charlotte tie it up in the middle of the third when Charlotte wins a board batters and a forward is able to get off a shot from the circle beating Huska.

In a very short overtime Jones brings the puck in and passes to Greco who drops it off to Letunov. Letunov beats his man and shoots and a rebound comes right back to Letunov who puts it in for the game winner.

The Pack finish its road trip with 3 more games this week finding the team still in the sixth and final playoff spot, just ahead of Bridgeport and just behind Wilkes Barre. After the three away games against teams in the North Division, the Pack finish the season playing 3 games in the final weekend of the season, home against Charlotte, away at Bridgeport and home against Wilkes Barre. The playoff picture could come down to the final weekend.

The Pack seem to have righted the ship. They have been competitive in the last four games, winning one in overtime, losing one in overtime when Jones skate blade broke and losing two one goal games to Charlotte -- the 4-1 loss had two empty net goals.

Skinner was back in replacing Scanlin and Pajuniemi and Reuschhoff were back in so it looks like they had been healthy scratches.

Trivigno played on a line centered by Richards with Reuschhoff on the other wing. Khoroenko centered Greco and Gettinger. Letunov centered Ronning and Merkely. Fritz centered Pajuniemi and Lorito.

Jones, Khodorenko, Letunov, Ronning and Greco looked like they were impactful today.

Pack still in playoff slot,
but by the thinnest to margins, ahead of Bridgeport
season ends 30th, so unlikely any extra help arrives before then

In respect to Hartford’s goaltending it’s a really young and inexperienced defense in front of them now. The only one with more than 100 games pro experience is Tinordi.

Where was Pack GM Ryan Martin at the trade deadline (or even before) trying to solve that issue?
Twas'nt an issue til thet traded Bitetto and Reunanen and Schneider got recalled and never returned.
Its ugly but I won't complain that they didnt make even another outgoing asset for pending UFA deal

I think the bigger issue is that once NYR acquired the players they did at the deadline they weren't forced to send down the McKeggs, Brodz etc so that killed their AHL depth. Would've been nice if they signed some players to AHL contracts to help fill in the gaps. Esp when there's not much prospect depth down there except Paj who still seems to not be getting reg ice time.

Losing McKegg, Brodz and Schneider definitely hurt.

But other than sending any of them down, who was available that would help? They added Scanlin, then traded Bitetto for Merkley, and Reunanen for Latunov to bolster the forward group. We've got Lundkvist, Jones, Robertson, Skinner and Tinordi on the back end.

We could use some help in goal, but I can't imagine there was much help to be had there. We only had 1 contract slot left and were no doubt holding that open in the hopes that Ben Meyers would join us, so that means either trading a contract away to acquire a goalie or adding someone on an AHL contract.

It's unfortunate that Hartford has to suffer (again) for the sake of the Rangers, and it would be great if they could make the playoffs and get more experience, but ultimately that's what Hartford is there for, to be a feeder system for the Rangers.

I think it would be interesting to look at the best teams in the AHL each year and analyze who their best players are. I would imagine that the majority are veterans. When the younger guys are doing that well, they generally get a callup sooner rather than later. Take the Chicago Wolves, for example. They have the most points in the AHL. Of their top 8 players in terms of points, only 2 are under the age of 24, Jack Drury and Joey Keane.

For Hartford, hopefully Garand can come in and stabilize the goalie position the way Shesty did for half a year. At his age, he likely won't get more than a cup of coffee in the NHL as an injury fill in. But if he can play well, that will help the rest of the team. Maybe Wall can take a step and become a productive AHL goalie, or more likely, we look for a veteran who can help in case Garand struggles. Grosenick from Providence is a pending UFA. Through money at him to mentor Garand. Or get Domingue, who is also UFA.

Have we surrendered?
This is just sad.
The game before this one was pathetic. Other than the late power-play, I believe we had only one sustained offensive zone effort in the game. Though I will say that the linesmen and referees were horrible.
