In my opinion, Robertson does several things well but he doesn't really stand out in any one area. He is not physical like, Lindgren and doesn't have the offensive skills of a Jones or Lundquist. He is good defensively and responsible with the puck. I see him as a 5-6 NHL defenseman, maybe even a 4. On the other hand this is his first pro year and he does have the size and skating ability to grow his game. So maybe I'm underselling him and he has a higher ceiling. I have been wrong before as Mrs. Ranger Ric constantly reminds me.

This is a fairly common take for Robertson as a prospect, along with the fact that it may take him another full year of AHL hockey after this one to be close to NHL ready.

So while we have decent depth and prospects at LD, Miller really is the only one with star potential. I think Jones could be a great 2nd pairing guy, Robertson a solid 3rd pair.

The development of those three barring trades will likely dictate Lindgren's future here or elsewhere.

Hell of a period. Khodorenko had a steal behind the net and found Rueschhoff in front who banged it in.

Lundkvist took a shot on the PP that was blocked I think and kicked out to Gettinger who popped it into an empty cage.

Robertson had a point shot that O'Leary deflected in.

Barron and Fritz were in on a 3-on-2 shorthanded and Fritz threw a pass towards the net and Barron was charging hard and poked it in.

Then Lundkvist threw a frisbee from the point that found its way through a bunch of bodies. I don't think the goalie even reacted.

5 goals in 11 minutes.

Maybe on that play the LHV goalie was thinking he should be Brett Favre for Michael Strachan?

Anyhow congratulations to Brodziński. He is a very good AHL player and as the captain clearly a leader on the team. It's a well deserved record. I just wish the coaches would play him with some of the younger forwards so that he might help them develop.

In the third, the LHV goaltender went behind the net, held the puck, and Brodzinski just came over and f***ing stole it from him. Then he had an easy wraparound into an empty cage.

The goal gave Brodzinski a tally in nine straight games, which sets the Hartford record. They hang on 6-4.

So if he’s included in a deal, you won’t be butt hurt? Thanks for your reply Ric.

On Sunday, per AHL transactions, Berzolla has been loaned back to Jax

Jax can really use him. They've been playing without their top five scoring defensmen. Jacob Panetta was released and suspended for the season. Berzolla and Taylor have been up with Hartford. Charlotte scooped up Brandon Fortunato as soon as Hartford dropped him, and Charlotte also poached Jacob Friend from the Jacksonville blue line. The top scoring defenseman in Jacksonville right now is Sean Giles with 4 its in 28 games.

The Iceman have been suiting up some recently signed mystery men on the blue line. One is Medford, NJ's own Bryan Etter, an NCAA Div 3 player who had been out of hockey completely for three seasons before suiting up this season for his rookie pro campaign. Jax is his 6th team this season (1 SPHL and 5 ECHL). The other is Belarus blueliner Pavel Vorobei. He broke into the KHL as a regular at 19 for Kunlun Red Star, where he played with Wojtek Wolski and was coached by Iron Mike Keenan. 5 years later, after bouncing around the KHL, VHL and SM-Liiga, he's bouncing around the ECH, where he's already played for three teams.

Yup, Foxy was activated off IR, which is great.

related question, if anyone can comment-
does NHL have MINIMUM roster size, even during a layoff like this?
is that why,
while Fox was on IR, Nemeth (still) off-roster for 'personal' and Jones/Lundkvist in AHL
Tinordi was 'up'?

current roster per NYR site is 12F (+IR:Kakko, Blais) 6D 2G

Yeah, I don't believe you can drop below 12-6-2

edit: it's actually just 18 skaters

watched a lot of Robertson over the last 2 years or so.
Imo he tops out as a top 4 D. He’s still like a puppy with big paws. The size/skating package is impressive. He make many slick subtle plays with the puck. He moves the puck very well but I doubt he’ll be a big nhl point producer.
He’ll make a lot of great 1st passes and plays in his own end that won’t find themselves on the scoresheet.
He plays a responsible defensive game positionally but isn’t overly physical. I’m hoping as he adds some weight to his frame, he improves in this area a bit.
Having said all that, even though him and Schneider are basically the same age, developmentally, Schneider is further along. Robertson def needs another year/year and a half to cook and play heavy AHL 1st pair minutes.
He also needs to add another 10-15 pounds to his frame. If he does that, I’d expect you’ll see his physical game improve. He’ll never be a Schneider type bruiser, but sound positionally and won’t shy away from contact.
When all’s said and done, I see him as a 3-4 D that plays a responsible shut down D game that moves the puck well, especially for a big man.
Style wise ( Marc Staal/Nic Hjalmarsson)
Vintage Staal was a beast. I don’t think Robertson will be as good/physical of a defender, but similar style wise.

3-2 Springfield after 1. Pack outshot 17-10.

Springfield goals -- Just a terrible turnover by Reunanen on the point on the PP leads to a breakaway and a goal Second goal is on PP with James Neal uncovered in the slot. After the Pack tie it up Reunanen loses battle and falls to the ice leading to a Springfield player left uncovered in the slot. tough period for Reunanen. Jones also had a bad turnover on the PP that lead to a 2-1 that Kinkaid stopped. Kinkaid left out to dry.

Hartford goals -- Ronning taps in pass in front from Fritz and Kodorenko. Second goal is a great play by Ronning gaining the zone and cutting across the line creating time and finding Reunanen breaking in who finds Fritz on the wing who immediately passes back to an uncovered Reunanen. Great plays by Ronning, Fritz and Reunanen.

Reunanen's first period was a good summary of the player.

While he made a terrible play on the first goal, that was just a brain fart and I don't get too worried about one play.

The goal he scored showed creativity in joining the rush and getting the pass from Ronning and immediately passing to Fritz on the wing who returns the puck to a wide open Reunanen as he goes to the goal. That play really showed his offensive skill.

On the third goal he engages with a Springfield player the defensive zone and is out muscled and falls to the ice leading to Springfield having a free player in front of the net. He's just not that strong defensively on defense.

I think there could be room for Reunanen in the NHL but just don't see it for the Rangers.

I've related the story of my brief interactions with the bus driver for Ronning's Vancouver WHL team and the guy raved about Ronning as a person as much as a player. I root for Ronning to succeed.

Ronning is a creative offensive player and has proven he is a good/very good AHL player. But his size is a problem and he doesn't win many puck battles. His skating is fine but not outstanding. I thought maybe he could be a fourth line energy player but it's clear Gallant wants a big, banging fourth line. So I don't see a fit for him on the Rangers. And the Rangers seem to agree. They called up five other forwards during the covid outbreak. If he didn't get called up during this period it doesn't appear he ever will get called up.

Ronning is an RFA and I hope the Rangers qualify him. He is the type of player that makes other players better. Hartford was drowning last year when Knoublach finally inserted Ronning (and Adam Huska in goal) and the Pack completely turned it around. I could make the case that Ronning might have been the MVP and if not he certainly was in the top 3. I think he brings much more to the team than Greco who is a UFA. And maybe Ronning wants out seeing he is not going to get a chance.

So the long answer to your question is that in my opinion he might have a chance to play in a limited role with a big club but very unlikely it will be with the Rangers.

Is ronning ever going to have a chance to play with the big club? Anybody can answer.

I’ll take a guess that he will get a look in the NHL, just not with us.
Based on the very small sample size (5 games) that I’ve seen, he appears to be a smart hockey player.
There was a play were he was trailing an opposing forward along the boards entering the d-zone . Ty saw that the defenseman was going to pick him up and immediately went towards the center to see who needed to be covered.
Whenever he’s on the ice I notice him and not because he is undersized.

I hate to knock guys for being small, but Ronning is small and not strong. If he was a great skater these things would be mitigated but he's not (same fear I have for Henriksson). He's a good AHL player but I can't see his offense translating into a top six role in the NHL and he's not cut out for the bottom six IMO. He was a stud in the weird, watered-down AHL last year but is more "pretty good" this year.

The Rangers should trade him IMO. I can't imagine Ronning wants to stay here but at the same time you'd like to get even a conditional pick if possible rather than not qualifying him.
