Blah game. They lost 6-4. Barron puts up points, but just not making the kind of impact shift by shift that you want in a player whose ready to make the jump. Paju on the other hand is, to my eyes, the most NHL ready forward down there.

I thought Schneider and Robertson had a very average night as well.

Wall is a mediocre AHL goalie right now. Maybe he's like a Georgiev and needs to see a lot more action. Who knows. But it's a marked difference between Kinkaid and Huska and then Huska and Wall.

I saw the first period.

No reason given by the crack Hartford press department for why Jones not playing.

Barron played left wing on a line with Fritz and Ronning. It seems to make sense for the Rangers to develop Barron as a center by playing him at left wing. Pajuniemi on third line with Alex Whelan and Khodorenko. On the first goal Pajuniemin controlled the puck for 10-15 seconds and then shot. Couldn't tell if it hit Khodorenko or he deflected it but Pajuniemi made the play. I don't understand why we are playing Pajuniemi with Whelan and Khodorenko.

The first goal the Pack gave up was on the PP. Someone tried passing the puck back to Ronning who was going to bring the puck into the zone. But the puck was deflected and bounced towards Ronning with the puck going over his stick. He made a heads up play by pushing the puck back to Wall who mishandled the puck leading to an easy goal. On the 2nd Springfield goal just horrible defense by the top line of Gettinger, Greco and Brodzinski with Robertson and Schneider on defense giving up a shot 15 feet in front of the net that Wall had not chance to stop.

I wouldn't say Pajuniemi is the most NHL ready forward right now but he shows the most promise. I would like to see him play first line minutes and get more minutes with better players.

Schneider and Robertson did not look good on the second goal.

As for goalies I have heard Vince M. say several times his podcast that the Rangers consider Dylan Garand as their top prospect. Huska at least usually doesn't let in soft goals. Wall was unimpressive last year at best and hopefully he can regain his game at Jacksonville.

Thanks for your write up.

Garland is the reason Shesterkin never got 8 years imo

This was a fun third period. Pack down 3-0 in the second although I thought the game was pretty even and Pack were outshooting Springfield. Skinner pinch doesn't work and Pack give up 2-1 leading to goal. 2nd goal comes off Robertson turnover. He has the puck with no one on him and he completely flubbed the pass, which dribbles to the blue line. Springfield picks up the puck leading to confusion in front of the net and a score. 3rd goal on PP. But Pack not playing badly and had several high danger chances that just don't go in. Pack break through near the end of the period with a 3-2 resulting in Gettinger getting a high quality shot that goes in. Pack dominate the 3rd outshooting Springfield 14-6. Hunter Skinner with a blistering shot off passes from Khodorenko and Ronning. Khodorenko and Pajuniemi were playing with Alex Whelan but Knoublouch moved Ronning to replace Whelan in the third period and that line was buzzing the entire period. That might have been the best I've seen Khodorenko play in the AHL. Pack pressured Springfield and then with the goalie pulled Brodzinski shoots one that eludes the goaltender with 36 seconds left.
A scoreless overtime leads to the shootout with Kinkaid stopping all 3 shots and Gettinger as the third shooter wrists one for his 3 shootout winner.

Pack break their losing streak. Except for a couple of defensive miscues the team deserved to win.

One other note. Much to my shock Jarred Tinordi had an excellent game. Was a force on defense and joined the rush several times to create chances. No poor passes or turnovers.

IDK, I still think Gettinger could have a career somewhere. He's not great or anything but he's pretty consistently involved, which is something you like to see at this level. The AHL has lots of guys who pick up their points by showing up for a handful of shifts every night.

Gettinger has improved a great deal over his four year. But I just don't think he has the quickness or the physicality to be a bottom line player in the NHL. I think he becomes a guy who might receive call ups with injuries. He'll be 24 next April so he's running out of time. But maybe you're right and he finds an NHL career somewhere.

Thanks Ranger Ric, NYR2K2, and Gravey for your posts of the games and your thoughts as well.
Although all of you don’t always agree, which is normal, I look forward to reading each one and hearing what you guys have to say.
WTF is going on down there with Barron?? Imo this kid deserves a cup of coffee call up when Panarin got hurt. If for nothing else, to reward his play/progress over the last year and a half and to evaluate how he looks at this point in the show. It’s the smart move over McKegg for several reasons TBH.
I saw the game before the last one, knobauch started him at LW?!? Was this the first game of the year they took him off center duty??
Sounds like Barron wasn’t his usual self for the last couple games. It happens to the best of us, at least he’s still producing points.
I’m wondering what else he’s got to do before he gets a few games with the big boys ???
Imo he certainly capable of playing 10-13 minutes a night on 3rd line for 5v5 and the Pk... what you guys think??
His size and style seem like they would really help him acclimate quickly to a bottom 6 fwd spot on a Gallant coached team.. he’s also responsible defensively.
I get that you want to see him dominate and take over games more down there, but that probably isn’t going to be in his wheel house like Chytil did towards the end of his tenure there.
His game is mainly going to be down low, along the boards, using his body throwing hits and crashing the net on the forecheck. I’m sure if he’s open and gets a chance, he’ll let his high end wrist shot off the chain as well.
From the games I’ve watched over the last 2-2 1/2 months, Barron is noticeable in every game I saw for doing something positive, at least more then once a game. It seems like the only big thing I wish he did, was skate a little better. Much like LaF, he doesn’t have that explosion in his first 2-3
Steps. He’s also not really a burner at top Speed. He’s not a bad skater by any means, just could use some improvement in that area. Mainly his first 2- or 3 strides to build up speed and get more separation. Although, I haven’t been able to watch every game like you guys...
I just think Gallant and Drury are missing a serious opportunity to get a good close look at Barron with Goodrow/ Gauthier/ LaF maybe and whoever else. But again, that’s something he can work on if he’s in Hartford practicing and playing, or up with the rangers for a cup of coffee stint practicing and playing.
With shesty/Panarin/ and Lundkvist all injures and the rangers being near the Top of the standing with some breathing room, how is this not the perfect time to give Barron a look? I don’t get it at all.......
In other news, I’m very happy with the way Paju and Gettinger have been playing.
I don’t agree that Paju is the most NHL ready fwd on the pack. I still think he needs to add a bit of weight and tighten up certain things as well. That should make him hard playing the puck, are harder for someone else to knock him off the puck. He’s not a bad skater, but he could improve. Certainly one of the major bright spots for the pack this year. No question. Hopefully Paju keeps developing and becomes a nhl player for us.
I’m also very happy with Jones, Schneider, and Robertson so far. They are all showing signs of improvement this season.
As of late , Robertson has picked up his game and has been more noticeable in a good way. He’s made some slick plays the last couple of weeks, he looks like he’s getting more comfortable. Granted he had a rough 1 the other night with the turnover that lead to a goal, but you expect these kids to have a bad game here and there. But overall I’m happy with the progress from those 3 for sure.
I’m high on skinner. Probably Higher then most. Imo he still has the ability to be a jack of all trades type of 3rd pairing D-man. He can move the puck, not afraid to throw a hit, and will shoot it on net when he can. Though he’s a little undersized he plays a little bigger. I like that he isn’t bothered when the rough stuff heats up. I don’t see his ceiling being more then that, and that’s ok. We need players like that too, who will be cheap and counted on to play around 12-14 minutes a game.
He’s another guy who in my eyes has improved.
But hes likely at least 2 probably more like 3 years away from trying to get a 3rd pair NHL spot.
Especially with the stable of guys we have here.
Even if his future isn’t with NYR, I think he finds his way into the NHL with some other team. The kid is definitely a worker for sure.
Lastly, I feel bad for Huska. He’s a better goalie then what he showed the other night against the Avs. I’m sure he was obviously nervous, and he’d be the 1st to tell you he’s got to play better, but the team kind of hung him out to dry after the 1st period.
Facing 40 shots against one of the best teams in the league in your big time debut isn’t easy. Especially when the team played the night before and had to travel back, switching time zones. They were noticeably gassed.
Bottom line is Huska is a better goalie then that performance, and I wish he could get another game under normal conditions to prove it.
However, that’s looking more and more less likely that it’s gonna happen, at least the rest of this year. It sucks, because the big man definitely has some talent between the pipes.
That’s really all I got right now. I just mainly wanted to see what you guys thought about Barron mostly, and whether you think he should be given a chance on a short term call up.... YAY or NAY????? I also wanted to thank you guys for your Hartford game posts/synopsis. I really enjoy reading them, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.....
Sorry for the long Novel- like reply, I wanted to share some of my thoughts on some guys and what I believe is the best approach/alternative, going fwd the rest of this season....
Thanks again guys, look forward to hearing your replies....flame away!!!!

I hoped he would be a Brian Boyle lite on the wing. Maybe he can be a late bloomer. I hope he gets called up in the future. Reward him with that based on his game and improvement, maybe he can still make it. Always been a fan of his. He didn't look out of place whenever he played those few games. He looked better than some other players have in the same circumstance

Yep. Also there’s a ton of fungibility in terms of skill and sometimes it’s just the right timing and a guy breaks out or finds the perfect role. Look at Barclay Goodrow.

Not even close.

Stevens went out of his way to repeatedly deliver blindside head shots.

Scott Stevens was a total piece of shit.

Yeah. Not a fair comp. Subban deserves a long suspension but headshots are a different animal. Can really ruin someone’s life targeting the head.
