Prospect Info: Hartford Wolf Pack/Bloomington Bison Thread: Part XV

Ex-CT Whale/Ranger Matt Gilroy is now an assistant coach with the USNDTP U-18 team (USHL), replacing current Ranger assistant coach and former Yale/Sacred Heart assistant coach Dan Muse.

Kinda OT, but I thought it was interesting.

The Rangers are well represented in USA Hockey and the NTDP. Ryan Bourque is the other AC along with Gilroy on the U18 team. The U17 team is coached by Greg Moore and Chad Kolarik is an assistant. Drury knows all those guys either through USA Hockey, through the Rangers organization, or through geographic ties (or a combination thereof).

As long as Drury is around the Rangers will probably take a lot of guys from the USNTDP and USHL, and also look at "overage" college guys as well. I like the approach as I think both the USHL and NCAA are getting stronger each year.

Game 2 Lineup against Bridgeport this afternoon:

Starters
Trivigno-Henriksson-Berard
Robertson-Barzolla
Garand

3-0 in the first with goals by Trivigno, Berard and DiGiacinto

Looking at the Wolfpack roster it seems like it will be predominately left handed defenseman in the lineup.
Of the 9 defenseman
Brouillard, Harpur, Hillman, Mackey, Robertson, Scanlin are all lefties
and
Barton, Berzolla, Hollowell are the righties

Seems likely they will be dressing at least 4 lefties
Brouillard, Mackey, Robertson, Scanlin and then Hollowell ( the only righty) are givens
most likely Harpur is the 6th defenseman and he will be the 5th lefty
then that means the extras would be
Hillman, Barton and Berzolla

Of the 18 forwards- I would like to think that these 11 are set

Sykora, Brodzinski, Othmann
Berard
, Henriksson, Trivigno,
Blidh, Korczak, Belzile
Edstrom, Rempe,

I would think of the remaining 7 players
Barbashev, Worrad are definitely going to Cincinnati
and of these 5 players
DiGiacinto, Elson, Leschyshyn, Pekar, Nash
at least 3 of the 5 are staying in Hartford

Of the 27 skaters- 9 were drafted by the Rangers
8 forwards and 1 defensemen they are the bolded names
then two others Scanlin, Trivigno
were signed as undrafted NCAA free agents after graduation

From what i have learned from knowledgeable folks here, of guys on NHL contracts, only ELCs can be demoted 'below' AHL without agreeing.

So Lesch, Elson, Nash harder to demote further.

Not sure how related rule could affect Brouillard, as an older than ELC player but on his first ever NHL deal

Rooting for Pekar to contribute, had followed him as Buff prospect, but, at least to start out, the numbers are against him.

I wont be surprised if SJS re-waives Emberson, an opening for NYR to maybe re-claim and demote( if NYR's is only claim, they reacquire with option to immediately re-assign)

There may be moves but Nash, Elson and Leschyshyn are not going to end up in the ECHL. They have all established themselves as good to very good AHL contributors. They would all be top 9 players on any given team in the AHL. One guess is that Korczak and Barbashev will head to Cincinnati just to get playing time. Pekar and DiGiacinto have a better chance to stay as spare forwards because both have grinding, physical components to their games that when they do get to play it will be most likely in 4th line situations.

Did we lose Emberson?
Edit: Disregard, just seen that San Jose claimed him back on September 30th. Pity.
Good Luck to him. Thought he played well last season.

I get what you are saying and somewhat agree- I had Barbashev going to Cincinnati but even if Korczak goes to Cincinnati , I would prefer the kid gets to play in Hartford. If assume Pekar and Diacinto are extra forwards in Hartford. That still leaves one of Elson, Leschyshyn and Nash as the odd man out in the 12 man line up.

Sykora, Brodzinski, Othmann
Berard
, Henriksson, Trivigno,
Blidh, Nash, Belzile
Edstrom, Rempe, ????? Elson/ Leschysyn

Berard, Edstrom, Henriksson, Othmann, Rempe and Sykora are our prospects that should be in Hartford.
Belzile, Blidh, Brodzinski and Trivigno are vets that should be there.
Thats 10 spots out of the 12 players dressing. One of Elson, Leschysyn or Nash is the odd man out. To me there is no doubt that it should be Leschysyn.

There's no roster or cap limit, so we can carry more extras. It's not ideal, but it might be necessary unless we can find a team to loan someone to.

Regarding Barbashev, afaik, he hasn't signed either an NHL contract or an AHL contract. If that's true, I don't think he can go to the ECHL (unless he signed an ECHL contract, I guess). I wouldn't rule out yet the possibility of him returning to the CHL, even if it's not with Shawinigan.

Sharks still w numerous D in camp
Ty being re-waived not unreasonable possibility
They don't have any preseason games left, so maybe they are just holding onto him because of injuries to other players. For his sake, I hope he stays and gets to play in the NHL. Selfishly, I hope he gets waived and we re-claim him.

According to Cap Friendly the Sharks have 10 defensemen on the roster. At least two will be cut. Emberson would be in the mix to be cut.

I can't remember exactly how this works.

Is it also that if he gets put back on waivers by the Sharks, and clears, we have the option of retaining his rights in the AHL?
