E-Brodz rejoins Jax on ECHL contract, his Pack/AHL deal had ended

for me, he will always be the poster boy for extended NCAA eligibility

He hasn’t done much because he’s injured both shoulders (right one twice) and had surgery on both. Us Sabres fans had high hopes for him, but the surgeries took a lot of wind out of those sails. He’s extremely reminiscent of Marchand, but can win a faceoff. He’ll probably be sent back to Cincy, but Hartford fans are gonna love him if he plays there. He was a fan favourite going back to his OHL days

I never knew he had injuries. Seems like a risk worth taking a flyer on. Hope he makes the most of it and earn an NHL contract either from NYR or another team. Hope this works out.

He also had a knee injury that never required surgery. He just got lost in the shuffle that’s now the Sabres farm team. I’d have preferred if he was kept as a depth C, seeing there’s very little available for Rochester from the Sabres side, but hope he works out for you guys.

I recall a couple years back, Sabres fans here at HFB, hoping he'd become a physical, 2-way middle 6, that didnt want him traded as that was a differentiator for hom from other F prospects

You remember correctly. That was before his injuries and he lost all stock he had. Although that may have happened regardless due to the current prospect pool of the Sabres

CDG is interesting,
I respect his determination and commitment to making a pro career path for himself

at 21, in '17, he finished his OHL career for Windsor,
then did 4 seasons of Canadian college hockey,
then signed w Pack in '21, at 25
re-signed last summer
last season, as guys got healthy, demoted and/or kids brought in, he was assigned to Jax,
became a regular there, played in all 12 of their playoff games,
then came back up as bench\black-ace for Pack in during their playoffs

and now Drury/Martin/KK welcoming him back for another go

Sabres have put a lot of top end wingers through Rochester the last couple three years. Quinn, Peterka, Kulich, Rosen and then late rounders like Weissbach and Rousek have really exceeded all expectations from where they were drafted. A big solid producing winger like Murray as well and it's not a shock to see a player like Pekar get lost in the mix especially if he's dealing with injuries. Don't know if he's got real NHL potential. I would think he's a pretty long shot at this point and it's not like there are a lot of openings with the Rangers or that Hartford doesn't have some kids or depth either. Pekar can be a combative cuss which is cool--that said he shouldn't be f***ing around with enforcers like Brett Gallant which he has done.

(oddly HDB spells his first name with 'e' and Eliteprospects adds this ' a.k.a. "Tristen Mullin" ' under his name

Maxim Barbashev was traded in the off-season to the Shawinigan Cataractes.

However, the team announced their roster for the 2023-24 season and Barbashev isn't listed, possibly indicating he starts the season in Hartford.

He still needs to be signed by the Rangers which has not happened yet. Great news if true.

either way, given precedent,
every reason to expect he attends NYR rookie and main Camp, and most likely Pack Camp too
And then if he doesn't stick in Hartford and goes back to juniors, people will claim he's a bust.

I think people hope he is closer talent wise to his brother and not the next Fedor Fedorov where the Rangers draft or trade for the worst brother.

Barbashev is in a tough spot, just like Nezejchleb. He counts as both an overage spot as well as an import spot. You get three of the former and two of the latter. It's tough having one guy occupy one of each slot.

Nezejchleb's team ended up deciding they didn't want to burn two spots on him and traded him. He went on to be the WHL Overage Player of the Year. The Rangers were unconvinced and didn't offer him a contract and he had to sign an AHL deal before the Rangers let him walk.

I'm not suggesting that's what's going on with Barbashev, just noting it can be tough for overage imports to "just go back" to juniors depending on the composition of their team.

Good ppokt on the import limitation.

Shawinigan currently has Jiří Klíma (CZE) and Leo Braillard (SUI) as their 2 import players, which is the max allowed.

Barbashev would be their 3rd so that's a problem.

ok but then curious why Shawinigan made the trade?
for the 16 yr old F they also got?
Cost was a 3rd and a 8th

No idea, man. The trade looks really odd now.

The trade was agreed upon before the CHL Import Draft where they got Jiří Klíma. Maybe Klíma impressed them so much, they prioritise him over just 1 year of Barbashev. Could be a financial thing too. The NHL compensates CHL teams when a player signs his ELC.

Any chance Barbashev gets loaned to another junior league and or European team?

Can Barbashev even play in Hartford since he is only 19? Could it be possible that Shawinigan trade him before the season? I thought Barbashev is too young to play for Hartford but if he does that would be great for him.
