The term Scandinavia includes Denmark even though they're not part of the Scandinavian Peninsula, weirdly enough, not exactly sure why *shrug*

Because a peninsula is a geographical term for a landmass surrounded by water on all but one side. Portugal and Spain form the Iberian peninsula.

Denmark is separate from the Scandinavian peninsula, but still part of the region Scandinavia, which has more a historic meaning than a geographic one. This reminds me of the debate we had about why people say "The Ukraine" instead of "Ukraine" haha

Yes, it's quite confusing.

Fennoscandia excludes Denmark but includes Finland, Karelia, Kola and northern Ingria (i.e. parts of Russia), since it is a geographic region.

The Nordic countries/Nordics includes the Scandinavian countries as well as Finland and Iceland (and the Faroe Islands, Åland Islands, Svalbard and Greenland though these are territories of the Nordic countries).

People usually refer to the Nordic countries/Nordics when they say Scandinavia.

Honestly I thought I would face a riot for saying he has mobility issues. Every report says good skater, but mobility is more than skating. It's getting where you need to go and if your steering wheel isn't there, the great wheels won't help.

Anyone having seen Day play more than 1 game in the AHL would have noticed... even the most ignorant on this board hahahaha What it kills it too is that when Day is on the ice with Lettieri or any other good skater, his stuck-in-the-mud-skating becomes even more obvious. I believe all this reports of his skating were from juniors, not from professional games scouting reports?

Hard to have reports on his skating from games other then juniors when all he ever played before this season was juniors.

His skating is excellent and i've seen him play more then 1 game in the AHL this season. What he has issues with is knowing how to use his skating to his advantage other then just when he has the puck on his stick. I reported many times over since we drafted him that he needs to learn to use his skating better off the puck, he did improve but a guy like Day with his size and skating should be able to keep a really tight gap when defending but he doesn't which dominoes into other issues.

I don't Think he's played enough in the AHL to give a fair take on him in the AHL, he looked fine to start the season with limited usage (limited special teams and 3rd pairing usage 5v5) then he was rotated out before being sent down (he played a few games during the rotation that i didn't watch, very possible he had bad games there). Down in Maine he was Amazing from a statistical standpoint, i didn't watch any of those games though but point wise he torched the league which suggests he should do well in the same kind of offensive role in the AHL aswell.

An otherwise fast player can look slow when not knowing where to go and reacting poorly. Grachev (whose failure I still blame on Gernander :)) had this problem as well.

Doesn’t matter how fast you’re capable of skating if you’re spending all your time in-game making wrong turns and false starts.

I might be ignorant then. His skating is still really good. He just doesn't know where to go or what to do. If you throw a blindfold on an F1 driver, he's not going to be moving particularly fast. The car itself is still fast, but the brains of the operation aren't functioning properly which makes the whole operation look like a destruction derby.

I bet if we could find a hands-on report of ECHL All Star Sean Day (LOL), elite skating would still be mentioned. The ECHL is slow as shit, in general. He'd have plenty of time to figure out where he's going and what he should be doing and I would wager the skating would again look excellent.

Day in TCT was a beautiful skater who perpetually had no idea what to do with the puck and moved from LD to RD based on where the puck went regardless of what zone he was in. Chased the puck like a dog and constantly and I do mean constantly left his spot open to invade his defense partners space for no reason and stand there.

Was amazing. He played like an 8 year old.

This made we laugh.

I remember having the actual thought during one of those games that he was like a golden retriever desperate for somebody to throw the ball. I may have even posted it on here, because I thought it was hilariously accurate at the time.

Can you clarify the Ukraine aspect, I was under the impression that 'the Ukraine' derived from their former status as a part of Russia. Seeing as it was not a separate country, like Poland, it was considered as a place more than an individual entity.

The Ukrainian government actually announced recently (I can't remember which year) that they should be referred to solely as 'Ukraine' and I just assumed they did this as another means of separating themselves from the East and promoting their independence.

On another note, it's a great country to visit. Besides prices being extraordinarily cheap, it has a very vibrant culture and the people are wonderful. They also really like Americans for the most part. Additionally, you can get an amazing feel for soviet era times. It's kind of like Cuba in that sense that it acts as a sort of time machine to a different era. It's quite chaotic at first glance and very rundown due to the endless corruption, but still I love it there and have been multiple times.

I've met many ignorant westerners who fear going there due to the war. Last year I even met one fellow American on my travels to Ireland that claimed it was illegal for Americans to visit there. I told him I had just been the month before and he looked at me with two heads.

That whole debate was deleted unfortunately (I wish moderators would move those posts to the OT thread rather than just deleting them), but what it comes down to is this:

"The Ukraine" comes from the Russian name which means "The borderlands". When they gained independence they wanted to be known as Ukraine, but in other languages they have not changed that yet. Same with "The Netherlands" which refers to the lower lands, including Belgium and part of Northern France. In Dutch we say Nederland (Or Netherland), but in other languages it is still plural, The Netherlands, Le Pays Bas, Países Bajos etc

And now 6 minutes into the second it is 2-2 already. Wolf Pack have that true Rongo swagger.
