I don't see a problem with either one of them spending the year in Hartford. They can be the go-to wingers down there and depending on how the full calender year shapes out we have no clue what wingers will even be here next year. Like they said above, the type of role they should probably be playing really didn't seem available anyway. That could definitely change by next season or earlier.

The way Georgiev played vs. the Flyers, he likely made the team. Pack should have solid goaltending this year with Mazanec and Tokarski.

Beyond the top 4 (#30, Geo, Mazanec and Tok), things aren't looking good at all with Nell and Halverson, of which neither is starting goaltender material at the ECHL level. Halvy is in the final year of his ELC, sink or swim for him this season. Maybe one or both surprise us this year with the Mariners...

For reference, Hartford currently has 18 forwards, 8 defensemen and 3 goalies in camp. This does not include the five guys we had to put on waivers today, or the three injured players.

This assumes everyone clears waivers, and does not include anyone on a tryout. This is also just educated guessing--I didn't put a ton of thought into the combos.

I have a bad feeling they miss the playoffs again.

I would like to see a top line of Gettinger(or Gropp)-Andersson-Meskanen. Lindqvist will likely leave to Sweden after a month.

My rationale on the top line is that both Schneider and Butler are borderline elite AHL players, and have been around. Andersson is perhaps the most important player on Hartford, so I want him in the best possible position to succeed.

But who knows. Any number of line combinations could yield high productivity.

Let’s see what happens with all players that might not be around when the regular season starts — but as of now it looks a lot to me like we will have a comfortable PO caliber roster down there. Would be very disappointed if they don’t at least park somewhere among the lower tiers of PO teams.

I would like to see
Lindqvist-Lias-Meskanen
Schneider-Holland-Ronning
Gettinger-Fogarty-Fontaine

Forwards: I’d prefer Schneider with Lias. Drop Lindqvist below Gettinger.

Defense: didn’t you forget O’Gara? He’s currently 9th on the depth chart with everyone healthy. Otherwise, switch your first and second pairs in terms of usage and it’s good to go.

Yeah, that is right on OGara.

Is like, what, the top 9 Ds in HFD all LDs? It’s far from ideal. Drury should be working the phones, try to swing Gilmour, OGara or someone like that for an equal RD. Day? But I recon it’s not easy, everyone is looking for the RDs while LDs are all over... You have to take a discount to get something done. RDs just carry a premium over LDs. It’s not odd, they are like 30% more common.

My reasoning with those lines BTW was to get an established top unit that would draw the attention with Holland’s line.

RD are lefties mostly (dominant left side) based on a personal experience.

You have to play the top Ahl guys there, then fill out with our best prospects around them. That means Schneider, Butler and Holland with prominent roles and Andersson, Gropp, Ronning or Gettinger playing with them.

Schneider -Andersson-Butler
Gropp-Holland-Meskanen
Gettinger-Fontaine-Lindqvist
Leedhal-Fogarty-St. Amani

OGara-Gilmour
Hajak-Bigras
Lindgren-Pedrie

It is kind of funny there are no lefty D, Gilmour and Birgas both play plenty right D bust still. Also won’t surprise me Lindqvist or Meskanen go back to Europe. I thought two of Chytil, Andersson and Howden would be with the pack, and still could be but kind of meh lineup.

That was the case back when I played and it’s much more common in Europe, college and juniors.

But it’s getting harder and harder in the NHL as the game gets faster. Playing on the wrong side benefits you in some areas and is harder in others. But at the bottom line when everything is summed up playing on the wrong side cost you too much time and exposes you too much on the ice in areas where you can’t afford it in today’s NHL. When the pack is coming at you along the boards you have to turn your back towards the ice and play it with your backhand.

Definitely glue Schneider to Lias wing, i'd run Meskanen or Lindqvist on the other wing but Schneider is a must imo.

I think other than Andersson, Gettinger is the best forward prospect closely followed by Meskanen. I I rather these 3 play together to develop chemistry, because they could end up playing on the Rangers soon.

I think Left shooting Dmen playing RD is not that big of a deal, I am sure most of them have done it in games and in practice. I think fans are a bit obsessed with this issue and blow it out of proportion.

Sorry, I meant to say that those with a righty grip on the hockey stick are often lefties outside of hockey.

I think there often is a lot of wishful thinking on behalf of fans that a D should be able to play on the wrong side, the reality of the NHL right now is the opposite. It’s certainly a point now we’re its a huge handicap to play on the wrong side. Like sure, if you have a leftie that can get by in the NHL giving up a — huge — handicap play him on the right side. But that is what it comes down to.

I’ve the last 10+ years heard fans project that this and that D played on the wrong side at whatever level and definitely can do it in the NHL too. Really, it has not happened once the last decade and there are litterary at least 50 guys who have been projected to have the capability to play on the wrong side. It works in the KHL. It may work in college. It’s probably a little easier in the AHL. But in the NHL? Often it’s not even remotely close to being possible.

No, that's not how you develop the kids in AHL.

Yeah, but remember what they said they wanted to do was to have these prospects play together in AHL to develop together and grow their chemistry together, but when all is said and done all we have are maybe 3 legit forward prospects down in Hartford plus a couple of possible 4th liners, plus very disappointing long shots and several AHL for lifers.
