The never ending job interview (which has unfolded over the course of the last two months) is down to me and one other finalist. I’ll have a full day interview tomorrow, which could get bumped to Friday due to weather.

This could be a life altering move for me.

A wild turn of events this morning.

My vehicles key fob is dying, my car yells at me every morning. Today i took my girlfriend’s car, because she took mine. She has the backup key and never drives so the battery is fine. Both keys to her car have always been fine.

I drive across town to get the twins on the bus. It’s gonna be quick so i leave the car running and the heat on, and head inside to get them packed up. When we get outside, the key fob will not operate. But the car is running. So they walk to the bus stop. All is well.

I go back inside (this is my ex’s house too which adds a layer of weirdness) and take one of the kids iPhones to text their mother what happened, and to ask if any devices in the house that i will be able to access have Safari/Chrome. Can’t bother my lady, she’s teaching VNA staff as i type this out. So i do a quick Google search, and find a Japanese video on how to unlock the door manually. I pull the key apart, use it as a tool to snap plastic off the door handle and expose a keyhole. Bizarre process but ok.

I get home and find out that the key fob of my ex’s car is also dead. Three keys dead at the same time

Supposedly, even if fob battery appears dead, if press the fob against the start button most cars recognize it and will start. I’ve never done it but thats what Ive been led to believe.

I’ve had to do it. It makes sense and doesn’t make sense at the same time.

Silly that a $5 battery has that much power over such a machine. I prefer the manual keys. Not that I want to go back to the days of crank starting a car manually, but technology can take a break on cars for a while and I won’t be upset

nobody warned me what an absolute cash grab baby gear is

800 bucks for a high chair? i'll make one out of two by fours and plywood, get bent

Know what drives me f***ing insane? Most stores are 70-80% girls clothes, as though half of us aren't raising sons. Boys need clothes too!

BOYS NEED CLOTHES TOO!

You buying designer infant gear or something? 800 beans doesn't sound right. Just get the cheap shit and call it a day. Hell, grab some of that stuff on Facebook Marketplace.

That reminds me. I have like 5 high back booster car seats for free if anybody wants to come get 'em in New Bedford

Wally encouraged me to share this and I am very happy to do so.

My family is once again running the Kayla Noel Memorial Toy Drive in my sister’s memory. She passed away unexpectedly in 2011 one day before her 23rd birthday, just a week before Christmas, due to complications from a chronic condition. We started this drive for local Boston hospitals in her name because during one of her many hospital stays she said that’s exactly what she wanted to do at Christmas. She hoped to one day bring toys to kids who were also there during the holidays.

The first year we did this I thought we’d be lucky to get 50 toys at best. We got more than 500. Since then we’ve grown every year, donating thousands and thousands of toys to kids and families during a tough time when they need them most.

This year we’re back partnering with BMC and Shriners Children's Boston, two great hospitals very grateful for our help. If you’d like to contribute it’s super easy. Both have Amazon Wish Lists you can use (links below). Pick as many items as you like from either or both and include a note for each gift that reads “For the Kayla Noel Toy Drive.” They ship straight to the hospitals and your note lets them know to put one of our drive’s stickers on the toy.

If you donate please let me know so I can keep track and, more importantly, thank you. Some members of HFBruins have already contributed because this place is the best.

I hope our drive have our best year ever. If you know anyone who would like to participate please share this with them. Every year strangers who learn about my sister’s dream and our drive end up donating and it always really means so much to me and my family, especially my mom. I can also answer any and all questions you or anyone else has.

Thank you all so much in advance. The hospitals’ Wish Lists are belowand Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you.

Get everything used. So much used baby gear out there. The only thing to buy new is a car seat.

I definitely have a love hate relationship with car technology. After a year I'm only just now getting comfortable with having just a fob as opposed to a key. Not looking forward to battery issues with it.

While I love being able to play music from my phone in my car, sometimes it won't connect and I have to reboot, and it's just a hassle. CDs never let me down, I'm just saying.

Heated seats and heated steering wheels can stay.

Mike, what you and your family do every year is so very special. Thank you for allowing us all to be a small part of making your sister's wish come true year after year.

Depends on the car make. Ive gotten as short as 1 year and as long as almost 3 years.
But I always change both when I do it. I want to know the spare is always good too.
Thanks for reminding me I 1. need to get my spare from my mom's and 2. I need to change its battery. I changed my fob battery about 2 months ago when I got a lovely "your fob battery is low" message on my phone from the Subaru app.

Getting an oil change Friday morning and it will be the first time I won't have to also get an inspection sticker.
