I'm just speculating here.

Not completely sure of the Canadiens needs, I assume it's wingers, but let's say they trade Desharnais + McCarron for Hanzal + Rieder or another winger(?)

I highly doubt Montreal trades Desharnais considering he seems to be a management/coaching favorite and an integral part of that locker room. Interesting idea. At the same time, I just don't see how the Coyotes can trade Hanzal without getting a quality center back in return. They'd end up leaving their young kids out to dry.

A big center and LD. As for a winger, we're short on LW.

Habs Could really use Hanzal, Espeically for the faceoffs and the size dont really know what the return would have to be but id love to see it done.

As an outsider McCarron for Hanzal looks fair. Meets the needs of what Arizona are apparently asking and also gives Montreal a monster 2nd line centre. Plekanec isn't going to get the job done in that role if a Stanley Cup trip is really what the Habs are looking for this year.

Its just a no go from the Habs POV. McCarron has been developing very well and Bergevin is keen on keeping the prospects he develops and sees as part of the core. McCarron fits under that category.

if the ask is Big Mac from the Coyotes i really doubt that deal gets done, Im sure theres a deal that could still be made but the habs cant afford to trade Mac when its easier just to call him up and we basically have a Hanzal.

McCarron should not be part of the deal. He's basically a 21 year old Hanzal and the same size. I'd turn it down if he was part of the trade.

I can definitely see how Arizona wouldn't do a deal with Montreal unless McCarron is coming the other way. 1) They supposedly are looking for a young NHL ready center in return. CHECK 2) Mac has played with Domi with the Knights. CHECK 3) Essentially projects to be the same type of player as Hanzal but much younger, much more cost effective and hopefully more durable. CHECK 4) Unless I'm mistaken, they don't have a ton of RHC in their organization.

What's Montreal's incentive to trade away MacCarron then? This makes zero sense.

Not knocking McCarron, but at age 21 Hanzal was already into his second full-time NHL season of playing top 6.

McCarron has all the tools to be dominant, minus the skating. His skating is poor and it kills him in a lot of situations. Otherwise, he's a better player than Hanzal was (at the same age), he's just a step behind every play.

Although his skating is improving as his body matures, which is why I would not want to move him. Obviously, if there's a piece that can put MTL over the top, I would be all for moving him. Hanzal isn't that though, so Hudon is where I would lean more.

doesnt make sense for the Habs, Mac is 8 years younger than hanzal and has higher potential no idea why he isnt even in the Habs Line up at this point. Id have to say Hudon would be the main piece going back to the coyotes with a small add.

I would do Hudon and a second right now. Only because of our abundance of both assets (skilled player on the smaller side, 7 picks in the first two rounds of 2017 2018).

McCarron for Hanzal will never, ever happen.

The trade would have to be

Hudon, Desharnais, 2nd

for

Hanzal

Yotes might even be able to flip Desharnais before the deadline for something if a team is desperate enough.

I'd love him in Edmonton, but the only "NHL ready" center we have is Bogdan Yakimov, and I don't think the Coyotes would want a guy who was playing in North America but went home. Mid season if my memory serves.
