I see a fine or warning incoming to give Hansen some history if he were ever to do something similar, but I think the league needs to give him the benifit of the doubt here
But it shouldn't.
**** happens. It is hockey and it isn't even really a dangerous play. The only reason Hansen will get anything is because Hossa is a superstar and Hansen is vermin who plays for the Canucks. And that is the problem with this entire exercise.
Bollig does that to Sedin, nothing is said nothing is done. Yes as Canuck fans odds are we are unhappy and some may be calling for a suspension, but the NHL wouldn't give a rats ass and the media wouldn't be calling for blood.
I thought Hansen did have a "history". Didn't he get suspended for getting tangled up and crashing into the boards with someone on an icing play a year or so ago? Or am I thinking of someone else? I'm sure in the eyes of the league that makes him basically a felon now.

wrong. you clearly know nothing about brain injuries.
I can't think of any suspensions that any current Canuck has gotten in their career. Could be wrong though.
It was a head shot. Even if out wasn't intentional the NHL takes these things pretty seriously. Don't b4 surprised if he gets a game or two for the outcome, regardless of the intent.
While the evidence seems to show that prior concussions don't increase the likelihood of suffering future concussions, there is some evidence that there are various factors that genetically predispose certain people to brain injury. Combine this with a basic understanding of Bayesian inference, and chances are that his statement may actually be (accidentally) correct.
I'm not doctor but we've seen players like Booth and Crosby come back from long layoffs after bad concussions and be concussed again by collisions that are somewhat routine.
This is Booth after returning from the Richards hit.
Current Canucks have no suspension history.
I wonder what I'm remembering? Oh well, glad he's clean.
In fact, last year we were the ONLY team without a suspension or fine. We're pretty Classless.
Bitz was suspended last year in the playoffs.
It's important to distinguish between concussions that occur soon after a previous hit and those that don't. Second Impact Syndrome is a real thing, but that only happens if you return before all symptoms have subsided and the brain has fully healed.
I don't think Hansen should be suspended. Obviously, he tried making contact with Hossa. I'm not sure he intended to hit him in the head. When plays like that happen you just try to make contact and don't really think about it.
When making a play like that Hansen is aware he has a 50% chance of hitting him in the head or a 50% chance of hitting him in the shoulders. I don't see any malicious intent in that hit what-so-ever. However, hits to head sometimes need to be accounted for and I think there is a 50/50 chance the commissioner does something.
What ever is decided for punishment to me will be fair. Five games would be crazy.
Hawks fans were saying 5 games because that is what Keith received. This hit was not even close to the hit Keith delivered. Keith's intent was obvious.
I think he was going to punch the puck. Just disregard the main boards, it's nothing but a bunch of Bruins, Hawks, and Oilers fans moaning about nothing. Anyone comparing Keith's blatant elbow to this is crazy

Kerry Fraser, ex-referee, from TSN says there should be no suspension:
