Dougie and the new look defense and goalie are great. But this team goes as far as Nico, Hughes and the other super young Guns go. We should be better at defending and keeping pucks out. But we need them to go in the other net.
Our power play should be much improved with Hamilton running it. That alone could be worth 20 goals over the course of a season. But one more forward who is a finisher may be in order.

I see Severson ahead of Subban on some of you re depht charts
Has Subban really become a 3 rd pair defenseman on you re team ?

I agree. Our offense right now honestly looks like it'll be quite bad. That's why I want stopgaps like Tatar and Krejci on 1-2 year deals. They're good enough to help us a lot in the short term but won't hold us back in anyway when the young guys are ready to step into the lineup. As it stands I question how good this team is but if you add them then we're right in that mix
A strong and offensive blue line can help take the forward group to the next level, I think our young forwards will prosper thanks to the addition of Dougie as well as a year-older and more experienced Ty Smith.

Oh yea, Subban is pretty bad. With the pickup of Hamilton I would try to trade Subban.

But its not a knock on Severson. Hes our second best Dman and incredibly good.

Yes, Subbans game had declined precipitously over the last few years. The Devils had no choice but to play him up in the lineup and the results were not good. He should be much better on the 3rd pairing and yes Severson is the better player now.

PK might not be such a bad option as a 5th or 6th defensemen, unless we need to shake him loose because of the cap, I'm ok with keeping him. He's someone I could see having a rebound year as his play towards of the end of last season was not too shabby.

Who is going to play 3RD? All our top prospects are LD. I have no problem overpaying Subban to play on the 3rd pair this year. We have the cap space in spades.

subban gets so much unwarranted flack. IMO guy discretely played at a #2-3 D level last season. Thought he had a really strong year, especially over latter half-ish. $9 million salary good, no, but still top 4 caliber easily provided he can replicate.

Feel the same way....I would like for him to continue to give us the 5v5 minutes for the majority of this year that he gave us last year. Until the trade deadline perhaps...But I wouldn't mind letting him walk for nothing if it means a playoff push.

The Defense is totally transformed. Especially true for Special Teams...Hamilton is your PP guy and Graves is your PK guy...Pretty much all the guys that had major roles on special teams from a defense perspective have been phased out or down.

But those 5v5 minutes that PK can provide are valuable and not easily replaced in my opinion.

Put me in the either trade PK now for half retained to get something we need more, or with more future potential or forget it until the summer. I don't want to go into another season with deadline plans to offload guys.

I think the term "3rd pair" is a little misleading in this situation.

But yeah...If you look at it straight depth chart he is the 3rd RHD right now.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they brought PK back after this year, assuming he would take a massive paycut. He's not a top pairing defender anymore but he's still better than most alternatives. And he's someone you feel comfortable playing more when there are injuries. Plus he seems great for team morale. You could do a lot worse for a 3-5 defenseman.

I'd love it. I love PK and what he does for the locker room. I don't know if he'd be up for it obviously, but if both parties were open to it, I'd love for him to stick around.

word is from within the organization that he doesn't really fit with the culture they are trying to establish. I would bet that PK will either be gone by trade or FA. He has a me-first mentality that is cancerous to the younger guys and the culture they are trying to establish.

LMAO, I don't know if I've ever seen a player more excited when his teammates score.

People obsses over the cap, but how many teams have been seriously hampered by cap management to a wildly detrimental level? So you eat a couple picks or offload some guys for futures and replace them with guys on ELCs. If you're in a position where one guy's contract torpedoes you for an extended period of time, a lot more went wrong than one bad long-term contract.
