How anyone calls this an overpay after the prices we saw last week, not only in contracts but also in trades, is beyond me. Defenseman are expensive, that's just the market right now.

Hamilton is now the fifth-highest paid defenseman in the league - receiving more than guys like John Carlson, Miro Heiskanen, and Victor Hedman; primarily based on analytics for the past two seasons.

How is that not overpaid?

lol I just went into Burnside's winners and losers article on FA and his first for us is "I don't know if you can win a Stanley Cup with Dougie Hamilton". Remember when people said that about guys like Stamkos and Ovi? It's almost like anyone can win a Cup and if you're a great player you can definitely win a Cup

I know it's popular to think people in the media dislike New Jersey, but Burnside was #1 on that list for me.

The Devils haven't won a playoff round in 9 years, how about we walk before we run

Even if we agree he's overpaid, it's not by that much, and getting him to come here was going to require NJ pay a premium.

We added the best UFA on the market.

Adding a legit backup goalie is huge as well.

That's certainly the way it's being spun by the Devils PR department and Hamilton's agent. Seems like a Giancarlo Stanton move but time will tell.

LOOOOOOL I think it's your bedtime.

He's making less than Seth Jones and Erik Karlsson. He's making $1 million more than Jacob f***ing Trouba.

Statistically he's been the third best defenseman in the league and is expected to continue that trend. I don't care about what someone's name or supposed reputation is, I care about performance and results. This is why stats are nice to have, because it cuts through the bullshit.

Today's market says this is the price of a top pairing defenseman. Hedman and Carlson took less money years ago to stay and Miro was a RFA who had no leverage.

Now go through the defenseman who make more than Dougie.

Dougie has completely changed how I look at the team. I was thinking next year would another year to just let things play out and we wouldn't be all that good. I was totally content with that. Then the year after we'd start to turn things around and the year after that we'd be a playoff team. Now I'm in more of a go mode and want to make a legitimate playoff push
