Halo: Infinite (Dec. 8th, 2021) - Xbox Series X

It's a demo. Earlier build. I took part in the Ghost Recon Breakpoint closed Beta earlier this year. It didn't look near as good as the finished game.
I don’t get why they would wait so long to finally show the game off, and wait until 3 months before it has to be finished and go gold, and this is what they decide to put out. Why not show the latest and greatest graphics? I don’t expect a TON to change within 3 short months..

That's not how demos are made. Besides, they cost money and time, which is why developers hate making them and you see them less.

The reason they waited is because everyone has known this game is launching with the new system. The new system hasn’t even been fully announced with price and date yet. You don’t show off the game before all that stuff. In a normal year, we probably would have seen this earlier, but its not a normal year.

Everyone wants to talk about the graphics but the framerate looked real smooth to me. As long as the game is fun and runs smoothly, I’m good.

Definitely glad to see 60+ fps, there's really no reason for a mulitplayer FPS to be stuck at 30 anymore. The increased graphical fidelity that you can get at this point just isn't worth that drop, it was understandable in the original xbox days, but it's a bit silly now.

Looks like the demo was a section of the final game. So maybe not an early build like some are thinking?

It's talking about the demo.

Halo Infinite - Campaign Evolved

Halo Infinite has been built entirely on our new Slipspace Engine, which was designed from the ground up to serve as the foundation for the future of the franchise. The technical enhancements of the Slipspace Engine are too extensive to truly get into here, but one callout is how we are now able to pack in 10 times the processing per pixel, creating the most visually rich game we’ve ever made to go with the most open and expansive environment to appear in a Halo game. That’s just the start though, as Xbox Velocity Architecture brings near instant loading, Smart Delivery will pull the optimal version for your device, and we will be running campaign at 60FPS with up to 4K resolution. We are also designing Halo Infinite to grow and evolve over time so we can continue to deliver experiences to our players well beyond launch. This is the most technically advanced Halo game ever created, paired with the most powerful console on the planet, allowing us to create the most vivid and immersive way to experience our universe.

By the way, are people just ignoring that it's an open world game?

I know that. Which is why I stated that in my original post. Also, what does a game being open world have anything to do with what the game looks like? If people think the game looks rather lackluster, them knowing its an open world game isn't going to change anything.

I didn't say that. Just saying the game being open world should be talked about.

The tech is fine for the most part. Not jaw-dropping, game-breaking visuals, but very good none the less.

Some things could be tightened up. The pop-in for the grass and other vegetation on the ground was a little distracting, for example.

The lighting was a little flat in what they showed. The energy weapons and explosions didn't really light up the environment as dynamically as they could have. But the game is apparently going to get a ray-tracing update after launch, which could help alot.

I'm a bit bummed because I actually liked the art direction in Halo 5. I understand the power-rangers jokes - frankly I think the entire franchise could/will benefit from cutting down on the number of armor suits - but for the most part I liked the sleeker F-22 style Master Chief armor, I liked the level of detail and color choices for the enemies armor, I thought the lighting was well done.

I'm just not as much a fan of the artistic choices they've made in this game as far as weapon designs, enemy designs, the retro Master Chief armor in full Ninja Turtle green, etc. It's a personal thing, I just think the game doesn't look... 'pretty' for lack of a better term.

Probably because its been overshadowed by the lackluster visuals.

To be fair, the bigger the scale of the game, the less fine detail you tend to get.

The best looking games tend to be the ones with smaller areas with a lot of developer-control over where you can go, and when things happen.

That COULD be a factor here, but that still ignores the fact there is a generational jump happening, so you'd want THIS open-world game to look substantially better than current-gen open-world games. And I don't think it looks SUBSTANTIALLY better than say, GTA5 or the latest AC games.

Xbox Marketing GM Aaron Greenberg responded to criticism about Infinite's graphics, saying: "Listen, we're in the middle of a global pandemic. It's July, we're far from [launch in] Holiday, you're seeing a work-in-progress game."

“ The other thing I'll just say is: it is a work-in-progress. I can tell you, because we see build check-ins every week, and they make progress week after week, so between now and Holiday it's just going to get better and better."
Aaron responds to feedback “ It's very hard to show the full power and graphical fidelity of what Xbox Series X will be able to deliver for you over a stream. Go back and look at it in 4K 60," referring to the fact that the stream was delivered live in 1080p, but the gameplay premiere can be viewed in 4K 60 FPS on the Halo YouTube channel.

Halo Infinite Demo Was a Work-in-Progress Build, But Running on a PC as Powerful as Series X - IGN

I will say, it's pretty much legend at this point that the original Halo: CE was a gong-show at the 2001 E3. It was universally panned as an uninspired corridor-shooter and performing poorly. Obviously, when it released, a lot of things came together and people that had only seen a slice, saw the whole thing.

It's possible this thing shapes up. I hope it does.

But I'm still pissed thrusters appear to have been taken out.

Cyberpunk 2077 shows what an open world next-gen game can look like.

ya, thats all im saying. Im not expecting the game to look perfect especially when it was originally supposed to be made for current gen but when Microsofts flagship title looks so lackluster when they have been pushing this "Most powerful console ever" narrative, it just seems rather disappointing is all.
