I don’t trust the habs scouting to find late gems at this point. Look at the Leafs picking late and still getting good, big players. Watch Montreal not do that. If the habs don’t upgrade their scouting they need another top five pick or two.
They just found Hutson and Beck looks pretty good atm. Hage looks like a win to me. We'll have 8 to 9 picks in the top 3 rounds that's a lot if they miss with all it's going to be bad.

Only on the team, with Caufield, not league-wide
Does anyone have a reliable site that keeps track of individual PPG stats? It’s going to be worth referencing, the way Laine is going. ✅

On another note, while Hughes and Gorton deserve their share of criticism for the start (Gorton even admitted they shouldn't have gone with so many young D) and the high value given on some trades, I look at Detroit and I have no idea what the plan is there. Yzerman certainly hasn't reproduced his TB magic and he clearly doesn't have someone like Brisebois helping him.
TBay magic was all about starting with two elite talents at key positions (Stamkos + Hedman) + player desirable advantage (taxes + market) + taking advantage of inside info on upcoming rule changes due to concussion lawsuits transforming the league towards more speed & skill

The carrier trade was sneaky good..with laine Habs have a ridiculous PP. it will depend how consistent Dikembe is, but I suspect we’re not getting a top 5 pick. If Dach doesn’t figure it out, they’ll have to get creative.
With Demidov and Laine next year plus slaf, Cole and Suzuki, Habs suddenly have a lethal group
If Dach stagnates or downspirals in the 2nd half, then they can re-evaluate at that point.

They could certainly use him in a package to either land a high upside 2C or to shore up their RD. Some team is bound to pay up for his age and size.

A small bit of interesting info, the team is fourth in both amounts of 22+ and 20mph+ speed bursts, meaning we have one of consistently fastest teams in the league.

Also Slafkovsky is slower than last year. So no, all of your eyes are not deceiving you, though I find its because he just doesn't move his feet enough.
i wonder if that's a misleading stat... imo one of the team's flaws is how slow they are. there is not a single speedster on the roster.

On average they’ll get 1-2 nhlers from those picks. One of them may be good if the habs pick is high.

The habs are missing 1-2 top pairing D and possibly a Dach replacement. They already have too many small players. The easiest way to fill the holes is a couple more top 5 picks.

They are missing bottom 6 forwards and at least one more defensive D, but those holes should be relatively easy to fill.

Pretty sure getting Kucherov, Point with 2nd and 3rd round picks were just as important as Stamkos and Hedman. Not too mention a bunch of very good depth players like Killorn, Palat, Cirelli. And of course Vasilevski.

Building through the draft is so much more then just the top picks. Which incidentally included a bunch of whiffs, Drouin (3rd OA), Koekkoek (10th), Connolly (6th).

Habs won this game despite Hutson/Matheson and the 1st line not being that good.

MSL will have to break Hutson/Matheson, or don't play them with the 1st line against top opposition.
The first line needs to start scoring some goals Suzuki was shadowed by JT Compher all night and totally sucked.
He did get the wicked one timer off that hit Talbot but -2 and 40% on draws yuck.
Suzuki does not play well against JT Compher he didn't last season either.
He also useless on the PP in the bumper position what a f***ing joke playing him there.

Season’s hanging on a thread. If they play Primeau and he blows it, the full wrath of fans will fall on MSL. I know this fanbase. If he wins, some will probably even blame MSL for being reckless for playing him.
The season is not hanging on a thread we can barely beat shit teams.

Right.
I'm pointing out facts.
Suzuki is my boy and because he's my boy I notice these things.
Compher was in his back pocket for most of the evening.
I don't think the goals against were necessarily his fault but none the less his line wasn't great.
Marty would do well to get him a different match up in Montreal and stop using him as a bumper on the PP.

Carrier looked like he fit in well. Didn't make any mistakes, opposite of Barron. He played 19 minutes, was plus 1.

Dvorak 75% on faceoffs.

Even though nothing came out of it, I think the 2nd line had a decent game? Got a few long shifts in the offensive zone and even a couple of chances.
