Which team is currently in better shape moving forward?
I give slight edge to Habs. I think Sens currently have better players on their roster and their key players are either in their prime or close to it. I would have them as roughly -200 favourites in a Se7en game series today. Habs however have better picks, prospects and contracts. I also think they are better at attracting free agents. Now that Sens have Andlauer and Staos running things I think ownership/ management is a wash.

Would be close if the sens didn't call their rebuild early and waste assets on Debrincat and Chychrun

Montreal’s young talent is stepping up big, and under Martin St. Louis, they have built a hungry, resilient identity. Their strong five on five play and defensive improvements show they’re trending in the right direction.

Also Kent Hughes is a wise GM

Do they tho?

IMO the best skater on either team is Suzuki, without a doubt
Stützle could be a bit more offensive, but Suzuki's 2 ways game blow Stützle's out of the water
Is Batherson better than Caufield?

IMO, the answer is the Habs, easily

Habs and it’s not that close imo. And I generally think habs fans overrate their prospects, but it’s hard to over state just how bad Ottawa has fumbled their rebuild. Not in the sense that they are underachieving or have a loser culture or something, but more like they dealt assets for players that clearly didn’t want to be there that they never should have gotten rid of. Ottawa could be so much better long term if they just trusted the process.
