Laine seems to be at an offensive tier of Caufield and Suzuki. Slaf and Dach haven't been at that tier this year.

Laine is a world class talent. I think most would agree. Can he realize that talent though

I don't know why most of you are criticizing Newhook in line with Suzuki and Caufield. Alex is extremely fast, can outrun opponents, win battles at the boards. Just the kind of player Suzuki and Caufield needed. Also remember that it wasn't Slafkovský who improved Nick and Cole, they improved him.
Conversely, Juraj is the perfect player for Laine and vice versa. At least judging by Columbus, where he had the best chemistry with just such players.

So whatever he does, he does it quickly, but it ends up accomplishing nothing?

That's why we're criticizing him.
