HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

"Close to a late 1st" doesn't cut it for me.

Would it be good assets management? Totally.
Would it be a good message to send your players? No.
Would it reward hard work? Neither.

We already have what? 7 picks in the first 3 rounds of the upcoming draft?

At some point enough is enough. Go with the current group and improve the group this summer.

The assets accumulation phase should be over and done with.
To " improve the group this summer" requires trade assets like... draft picks.

The team did what they were asked to do and go ahead and win.

Management won’t trade Evans and co unless someone better comes back this year

What do you expect him to say? "I hope they trade Dvorak, that guy f***ing sucks..." then he has to go play with him!? Come on. You NEVER get the truth in the media anymore. There's too much control on what players say now.

And we’d 100% be losing Hage in that trade.

Sure it benefits us right now, not sure it benefits us in 2-3 years.

Is our D and goaltending good enough right now? It would be in 2-3 years when Reinbacher and Fowler are in full swing.
Yes the D and G are good enough to make it into the playoffs and get 53% of this roster desperately needed meaningful game experience …. That’s what this season is all about, any playoff series upsets are a bonus

1. We have PLENTY of them.
2. There's something called the UFA market, too.
1. That's like saying you have too much money. Have you ever heard anybody say that??
2. UFA market; we are not a destination team anybody wants to come too. Too much political upheaval and way too much tax. Even local players don't want to come here; until we are their only remaining option, anyway.

Why trade Brett Kulak we can still make the playoffs with a 15-5 record! The players deserve to keep Brett Kulak for their efforts! Who cares about a low 2nd pick when you have Brett Kulak? Brett Kulak should stay.

Context: When Kulak was traded, Habs were clearly sellers. They were already at the bottom of the standings long before the TDL.. They traded Lehkonen and Chiarot the same deadline. This time, they are in the mix. It's a different context they're in.

I'm not advocating whether they should trade certain players or not. But the context is completely different this TDL.

No point trading any of our UFA's
I don’t care if the lockerroom gets pissed off if Evans and Armia are dealt. They should’ve played better in the first 30 games of the season, then we wouldn’t be suffering to fight for a chance to finish 8th place in a conference of 16 teams.

Selling high is the right move for the organization and it would help to recover some assets to use to acquire a 2C.

Sell Evans and Armia, try to remain in the mix. Probably the optimal overall outcome.
trading Evans and Armia for "assets" which would likely be 3rd or 4th round picks isnt going to impact a trade for a 2nd line center. If we are truly looking to make a trade its going to have to be one of our promising prospects like Hage and a 1st round pick minimum a 3rd and 4th round pick is basically a nothing burger and GM's trade those picks like candy.

Is this a team of 8 year olds that if we trade 1 or 2 guys they are gonna cry and pout?
C'mon, they know it's a business and they didn't play well enough to go all in despite beating some bottom feeders after the break, and showing heart - you gotta look big picture.

If Hughes can make a trade where he dumps UFAs but also finds a 2C using the assets++ would be best case scenario for everyone.

He could cost a lot. I mean a lot. And at the end he will be 35. Think of it twice.
These players pretty much never age well. It's an albatros contract in the making. Basically, when (if) Habs becomes contender, he will be rapidly declining as a 3rd line C. And will jam our cap space real bad - so you end up having to pay valuable assets to get rid on him. Easiest pass ever. You develop your (cheap) roles players, and / or you get them when you are ready to go for it. Hey, our core D are several years away their prime.

Trade 1: Boston Bruins trade Trent Frederic (50% salary retained) to New Jersey Devils in exchange for unsigned draft choice Petr Hauser.

Trade 2: New Jersey trades Trent Frederic (50% salary retained) to Edmonton in exchange for unsigned draft choice Shane Lachance.

Trade 3: Boston trades Max Jones and unsigned draft choice Petr Hauser to Edmonton in exchange for Max Wanner, St. Louis' second-round pick in 2025 (owned by Edmonton) and Edmonton's own fourth-round selection in 2026.

Plus Kent has two teams to manage for enough. Laval should be a priority as well and the best acquisition they can get is Beck.
The Laval argument does not sway me much. These games are by far the most important Owen Beck could be playing in. We have the luxury of using a paper transaction to ensure he's available for the post season in Laval. The flip side is if he plays and we make the post season he will not go back down nor should he.
He has to play minutes though.
