...not quite the case with Drouin...there were a few posters here who have watched Drouin since his Junior days and knew the player he was; someone who never once tried to advance his game past his natural skill...
Talk about Brook all you guys want but at least Im like the only person on earth that can brag about predicting the Drouin bust. (I said hed be a 50 points 2nd line winger, pretty spot on!)

That Andrei Kostitsyn was going to put up 40 goal seasons :(

The sad thing is that he had all the tools to do so with those hands and that release. Just couldn't work out the rest of his game.
AKs gonna score 40 next year dont worry

I thought that they would fire Tremblay and keep Roy.

I also thought Gainey would ask for an asset to take Gomez’s contract.

I also thought that Sergie Kostitsyn would be a great player for us.

I'm proud of you having the courage to bring this up btw

Personally I cant say I hated the pick, but I was BLINDSIDED and I vividly remember slumping off my couch in disbelief

The context here people may forget is we had just signed Theodore (who I hated lol) to a contract extension the week before so the very LAST thing I was expecting was drafting a goalie with the first top 5 pick in my lifetime lol
(I wanted Pouliot or Kopitar)

Turned out Price was pretty amazing lol
I wanted Kopitar too, but was exoecting hava to call Gilbert Brulé

It didn't take long to realize my error. When they hired MB from Chicago after their Cup win, I thought, finally someone with hockey knowledge and brains. Then, when the first thing he did was hire Therrien, I woke up and knew we'd made a huge mistake. They just wanted a good old hometown boy with little brains and big muscles.

10 years down the drain.

What's more surprising to you? Both would have been ridiculed if you said it before the season started

Habs making the cup finals in 20/21
vs
Habs making the playoffs this season?

Saku Koivu. I was very surprised when Boudrias announced his name. I'd never heard of him. Small build, modest stats, it didn't seem very promising.

I wouldn’t count Subban or Galchenyuk as being wrong for you. Coaching and health got in the way of both players. Subban was earmarked from the HOF before his injuries. He was a great player. A shame we traded him and treated him like crap… but that’s a whole other story.

yeah I was going to qualify those too hahaha. I've got worse ones I swear. Lots of them. I've been way too optimistic about some mediocre players.

PK's complex. I think he could've been even better had he not put on all that extra weight. In his 2nd or 3rd season. But he was still fantastic. Could've been better I think. Injuries for sure. The treated him like crap part I think is complicated. I won't go into that but still I don't love how we handled him even if he was worst case scenario bad behind the scenes. MB and co were really bad at player handling especially young ones.

Galchenyuk is hard to say. Again I think he should've been given more opportunities at C regardless but at the end of the day I actually don't think he was a C. Even still he never really progressed.

It's never clear to me when it's TRULY a development/handling issue or if it's the player themselves. I feel like he was still somewhat young enough when we traded him that he could've put it together in some kind of fashion. But he just bounced around like few players have in recent years. I could be wrong though. It could be mostly due to our handling of him. I lean more towards development not being QUITE as big a deal as some make at this level. To be clear I'm not saying it means nothing. I'm just not as convinced that all players are as malleable as many seem to think. I am more willing to concede that I'm wrong on that point now more than ever but still have reservations.

Did you mention Danault? lol ;)

Seriously though I saw his stat line last year and I gasped. I can't believe he got that close to 30. Never in a million years and I was a fan.

I do think you made a lot of solid points about him but you took them too far and were fighting your crusade against the French media somewhat unfairly.

You are one of my faves though and I'm glad you're back, boo.

Mans got lucky and is still a black hole of offense

Or he developped a shot he never had before

Relatively old take: Habs had lost to the Leafs when down 3-1.

New take: I don't see a universe where Slafkovsky is a better player than Wright.
You must be blind because you’re living in it bud. Half joking lol, but I think he will. Gonna be interesting.

I remember thinking during the Memorial cup that Morgan Ellis was way better than Beaulieu and Tinordi, and had a great future ahead ….. guess all three of them sucked 🤔

I got a ton of heat last year just for saying we could beat the Leafs. I wasn't even optimistic I was being pedantic and pointing out that it wasn't impossible.

Being wrong is one thing but it always annoys me the level of certainty hockey fans tend to have about predictions/projections.

As for what I've been wrong about. Lots. A few years back I was none too impressed with Suzuki and thought he was lazy.

Anything is possible with a generational goaltender. What he did to the best goalscorer of this era is downright disgusting.

That pokecheck save where Matthews was coming out of his right corner is in my memory forever.

100% thought they'd draft wright, convinced myself early on that the drouin trade would work, thought therrien would be fired much earlier, never thought they'd trade subban..

Oh god the list is so long it's unforgivable.

Kotkaniemi but I guess there's still time. I really dug my heels deep on that one and it's not looking good.

I defended MB quite a bit but it was mostly because this board was a bit loopy with him. I just wanted a sane middle ground. He shot himself in the foot one too many times after actually making good moves but following them up with kaka. I didn't think his contracts were that bad until the last couple years. That Price contract is just garbo. To me the move (non-move) that angered me the most was not re-signing Radulov. I could see some form of logic in lots of his moves but not that one. Beyond stupid playing chicken with him. One of my fave Habs. He was tremendous.

Here's some ones that I won't qualify...too much lol:

-Thought Galchenyuk was gonna be a beast
-Thought PK was borderline generational (though after that rookie season that didn't seem too crazy)
-Pretty big on Hudon, Andrighetto, McCarron. Loved those Vejdemo highlights lolol.

There's gotta be way more

I was not super excited by the KK pick. I’m fine he’s gone. Water under the bridge. However, I persist to this day in thinking he has upside left.

...agree and I think he'll find at least some of it in Carolina...Bargain Bin's handling of yet another promising prospect who was drafted as a project NOT to be rushed into the NHL...a Decade of Doom, those years were...more's the pity...

I thought Alexander Perezhogin would have become a great player for the Canadiens. But he only managed to hit posts.
