Just use a VPN to trick it into thinking you are somewhere else

Use a Russian IP address and get GCL for $75. :)

P.S. This information is obviously to help out fellow Russians currently residing in Russia.

I remember us discussing the Rogers regional rights rumor in the other thread and me tossing out number "10" out as the total amount of games we might see added to the Habs national package.

Came close. ;)

Yeah, good call on that.

I guess its also worth noting that the habs are pretty much getting the same national exposure on an english feed as the leafs are. That's not bad. Its certainly more national exposure than the other Canadian teams.

So while the hardcore habs fans out west are getting the short end of the stick relative to previous years, this deal will provide more national (english) exposure for the habs than ever before. The English market just happens to have a lot of room to grow for the habs, so there may be a whole lot of new supporters on the habs bandwagon with this deal.

As great as RDS was for us out of market people, there was no casual fan that was going to go out of his way to purchase a French package.

In summary:

Big loss for existing out of market habs fans but potential gain for new out of market fans.

My feeling is that the hardcore segment will find a way around the restrictions anyways... Whether legally or ileagally.

MTL - 40 national games
TOR - 40 national games
OTT - 29 national games
VAN - 25 national games
EDM - 22 national games
CGY - 22 national games
WPG - 22 national games

How well does hockey streams work and is it choppy or clear?

I have friends who swear by it and I grilled them about every detail because for me it's perfection or nothing. One problem however is that its closed registration now. You can sign up for invites when they open up more spots but who knows when that will be.

For now VPN (or other) + GCL seems to be least expensive way.

Look into XBMC + Mash Up which is even less expensive (as in free).

Someone even came up with the setup instructions handy:

Yeah it seems Potvin was rehired last month to do Panther games again so we won't have to deal with him and his god awful voice at least. I just hope we're not stuck with Sens homer Dean Brown calling Habs games.

I'm not joking when I say I'd rather listen to Edwards/Brickley duo than the Brown/Potvin one.

what about blockouts?

Games are only blacked out if they're otherwise available in your area (as in there's a local provider/channel you can subscribe to in order to watch it).

If they're not then you're not subject to....

That would be torture.

I didn't see if anyone asked this yet, but since I'm hoping we make the playoffs this year and I saw no mention of that in the article (unless I missed it). Who has the english rights to playoffs? I'd rather just watch everything in french than switch between 8 different channels for the english feeds anyway.

No mention of exhibition either.

Me too - but it's close. And mostly I'd enjoy spewing hate at Edwards, whereas Brown et al are just plain annoying.

TVA Sports has the playoffs in French, Sportsnet in English (this includes City & CBC channels).

The only thing I know about the pre-season games is that they won't be on Sportsnet. Maybe someone who watches those will help you out with more details.

I think all Stanley Cup Playoff Games are deemed national. Also I heard Randorf being appointed for the Hab's games, not sure on the colour guy though.

That's right and we will finally not have to put up with CBC's financial restraints (speculative on my part, but it is to the best of my knowledge) where certain portions of playoff games cannot be easily seen due to lack of channels available.

Bye-bye the dreaded overlaps! :)
