NYR not unhappy in any way.laf has shown nothing this season like at all. his status in the NHL is becoming concerning for a former 1oa pick.Terrible for the Habs
threads don't mean anything. Ive watched a lot of Laf since his debut. Hes been awful and I'm legit concerned even as a non NYR fan. So I wouldn't trade Caufield+++ for himNYR not unhappy in any way.
Drafted for what he'll become not his counting stats at 20
If your statement was really true, fans here wouldn't be posting threads to steal him away every week
what a dumb f***ing take and shows your limited knowledge / respect for the habs in the deal.Lot of nickels and dimes for a dollar. Would never happen but the one laf to Montreal trade that would make sense is laf for Suzuki 1-1 with salary retained. Not realistic given how many years are left on Suzukis deal but they could make the deal fair with the right retention amount. Would rather have laf given Suzukis contract, but suzuki at 50% probably worth more
Habs : Caufield + Chariot (resigned) + Gallagher @ 4mil + Struble/Ylonen
for
Rangers : Lafreniere + 2rd (blues)
Gives a chance to the Rangers to go far in the playoff while getting a great prospect with Caufield.
I see Gally playing with Strome on the second line while Caufield take over Lafreniere on the 3rd line.
Then Chariot plays with Trouba,, that line would be nasty.
Habs gets their savior ;-)
Gallagher and Chiarot doesn't put any team over the top, especially on massive contract terms. Those two adds would block an already log jam of D prospects ready to make the jump next season in Zac Jones and Braden Schneider. Gallagher's contract is a massive liability. At 29 he's already hit a wall. Does a contending team add a contract like that for 6 years? Seems like they would want to dump an underperforming ~$5M contract like the lightning have been trying to do with Tyler Johnson for a few years and managed it only because Bowman is an idiot.
75% of "The Rangers should do it because they're ready to compete" ignores cap, prospects, and current roster construction in favor of average to above average players that will cost cap flexibility and the pipeline.
I swear most posters are doing it on purpose to rob the Rangers of Schneider and Kravtsov and Lafreniere and Kakko (a la Eichel) so they'd shoot themselves in the foot by, for example, taking on 6 years of Gallagher and X years of Chiarot and be forced to dump their young defensemen.
Gallagher could definitely help in the top 9 this year and the next but the other 4 years? When Lafreniere (or Caufield) and Chytil, maybe Kravtsov, Kakko, Schneider, K.A Miller/Zac Jones/Lundkvist need raises, that will be a tough contract to move similar to Tyler Johnson's.
Plus next year when Fox, Mika, Strome get raises, the Rangers are already 100% capped out and would likely need to move Nemeth to clear a spot and cap for 1 of the 2 D in Hartford.
Gallagher would force Strome out. No chance the Rangers (and Panarin) would choose Gallagher over Strome.
