Fans are the only ones who care about the standings. Guys aren't leaving millions on the table to sign a hometown discount with a Canadian team. The Flames are good for the first year in Gaudreau's career, do you think that's going to entice him to stay for 8 years at a reduced rate? We've seen with American players in particular that they tend to chase the money.
First place teams don't spend big on UFAs. You don't see big-ticket UFAs on cup winners.yeah Gaudreau is going to leave a first place team to sign with the Habs. LOL

The Rangers did good with Panarin. That’s a bad way to rebuild.
Karl Alzner licking his lips.
Maybe the league will twist the rules one more time and allow 30 teams in. Once in, you never know right? They're this ___ close to Bedard, but they can't help trying to be a bubble team that will still miss the playoffs.
Lol dunking on the habs and/or Alzner appeals to me, or have I said something like this before??
The pressure on Habs ownership and management is so great that they can't afford to do a rebuild. The best they can do is go after free agents and make the best deals they can.
Montreal is a great market, but this is the downside of that market.

I believe the fans won't tolerate the losing that comes with a proper rebuild. The Habs wanting to go after a big fish has absolutely nothing to do with the market.
