Matheson is not “awful”, he’s simply playing above his pay grade. Should be playing 2nd pair TOI - options just aren’t there at present to allow for it
Hes f***ing awful.

Why is he here, really?

Suzuki had the nice offside goal :( him and caufield are getting keyed on every game by the other teams best C. fortunately Monahan has taken up some of the slack but we have so little top 6 forward talent.
They have to find another 30 goal forward.
Draft him, whatever. Needs to be found.
RHP, Anderson, Gallagher, Slafkovsky (right now)) etc..are not top 6 forwards.

The D also had a shit game and as mentioned, Matheson is playing too many minutes.

We took a beat down.
These type of games will always take it's toll on our small players.
Anderson had no interest in playng a physical game against their bigger players and Slaf has no clue how to use his size.
I can't believe how we have him playing a PK posture 5v5 it looks exactly like what it is...

Pathetic.
^^this and it's concerning. A game where it shows that having RHP, gallagher, caufield, newhook etc is a total disadvantage up front. And as you wrote, paired with two marshmallows in Slaf and anderson...it's very problematic

Matheson shouldn’t be playing 22-25TOI per game (22:36 tonight). He should be at 18TOI, but there’s no one at present that can handle those 5-min additional per game
So if he canr handle it, why is he needed? Whats the difference between not being good enough and being not good enough?

Matheson is back to mortal status since getting injured.

Are there conditioning issues for Suzuki? He seems to be severely lacking jump this year. His hands are obviously still showing but his feet have been hot garbage.

Marty needs to wake up and realize that 3/4 lines have no chemistry.
I was interested hearing about how John Taveras worked on his skating over the summer. Always a plodder he definitely picked up a step this year. Apparently he did a lot of work on his tight turns and keeping his feet moving. Suzuki needs to do the same. His faceoffs were 70% tonight and it shows he's worked on it however his skating is the one area I keep highlighting every off season as the best way for him to improve his game.

Because young teams need veterans - and $4.5M is good value for what he brings.

Unfortunately expectations are not aligned w reality. This fanbase has issues with managing expectations
Do they? And if hes good value, dont you think hed be worth more to a team that actually needs him, like a contender? The assets he could get are worth more to the Habs than the value he provides to the team.

His value is he’s a bridge to allow for Guhle to develop into TOI leader vs being thrown to the wolves too soon

What happens towards end of his contract is TBD - likely dealt

The only bright side is we should see that God awful 2nd line broken up with Dvorak coming back next game supposedly.
