Yeah, they were. Playoff type game and everyone was giving 100% outside of Laine. The Oilers, when they're on, are just a machine that are hard to stop and limit mistakes against, especially at home.

Evans was good at the dot and actually did things. Laine has the title tonight, brutal in all aspects of the game.

Laine is playing well, look at stats. He kept the puck, made good plays, move, didn't lose pucks, tried to play offense. But Beck and especially Newhook didn't play ideal. He can't play alone. That showed in his time.

I really didn't mind Matheson shooting on that 2 on 1. If he passed and Evans missed, you guys would be ripping him for not shooting. It's not like he missed horribly.

Deserved more icetime today though. This insistence on never changing lines is a bit weird. So Newhook and Laine don’t get to play because of it.

I don't know, this team just doesn't have a 2nd line. Beck is nowhere close to being a top 6 center right now. If they want to make a push for the playoffs they need to get a real center for that line. But even then I wonder if Laine is just too much of a plug to do anything.

But wait, someone on HFB told me Beck was supposed to replace Gallagher or Dvo, and we could ship those two the f*** out? Now you're telling me that translating AHL success to the NHL isn't a perfect science? What's the word for that… oh yeah, crazy

Evans (although Jake did so in e mistakes but he was great in the PK) and Laine played well, as evidenced by the stats. Carrier was awful, that's a fact. Hutson made mistakes on defense but excellent in offense. I don't like Newhook too. Why did not Slafkovský hard? I mean hits, hard play at the boards.

There is also absolutely no chance at all for this team to go toe to toe with Bouchard-Draisaitl-McDavid in a 3 on 3 matchup and come out ahead. It is an almost guaranteed loss.

That's a weak mindset to have. It's not like our best players are just a bunch of plugs. Caufield and Suzuki have been electric in OT and Hutson is one of the most productive dmen in the league. No team can compete with Bouchard-Drai-McDavid, but it doesn't mean they should just roll over and accept defeat.

Right, except for the rest of the game when he was good. Hutson coughed the puck up at the blue line for a breakaway and got crossed up with Struble leading to a goal - no complaints there? Crazy how you can play a solid game and still have shit happen.

By the way, Matheson lost position more than once even against lines without #97 and #29. Savard, Xhekaj played very well.

Beck is young, this is his first season, he has to get used to it. He looks better to me than he did at the beginning. He's good defensively, a warrior. He just plays pretty vertically, he needs to watch his partners more.

I'm assuming the Rangers are a lock since their roster is too talented to not pick it up when the games matter. So I'm looking at it as a 1/4 chance we get in. Either us, Detroit, Ottawa or Columbus should get that final spot.
