There is no way Suzuki is happy with that roster. Cmon now. You think Suzuki has to double shift night after night because he loves that roster?

Put Hutson Suzuki and Caufield like off for 3-4 games and they get probably wrecked offensively every games.

Laine is only visible on the PP where he plays with good players.
Newhook and Beck are not a solution for a potential playoff race.
The third line is abysmal offensively and not even good defensively
the fourth line is so soft without energy to give momentum. Heineman's place is not on a 4th line also.

We all know we shouldnt be in playoff race before even the four nation tournament. They also had that good stretch during December/January when Hutson Suzuki Caufield were on fire. They went invisible for games when those guys were off.

We have enough pick to waste for that to happen.

I don't mind them missing the lottery but for god sakes then do a move except staying in no man's land, enough Bergevism

There's a lot you said there so I'll take it point by point.

It's not that Suzuki is happy with that roster. Is only two realistic options are, play with the current roster or have it stripped of its veteran parts. There's no third option of somehow getting much better players to substitute in for this season. So between the two options I presented, I think he prefers the former.

I actually agree with you on your assessment for the most part. The difference is I'm not looking at it like a finished product like you seems to be. Eventually Newhook will be a third liner which I'm fine with. I believe Dach will be a third liner next season which I'm fine with. Add Anderson/Gallagher to them and I think that's a good third line overall.

I think the demidov affect will be massive personally (,for people playing on his line). I'm hoping that impacts Laine even at ES even if it's by just allowing him to have great scoring opportunities on a regular basis.

I believe Hughes will do a major move for a legit top 6 player, probably in the summer so demidov can actually have someone to play with. Here's my question to you: Does it actually matter if Habs are in no man's land for only this year if it means they potentially make the playoffs?

I think stripped is an exaggeration to describe trading one vet or two.

Matheson is playing #1 D minutes and competition. He can’t handle that at all. He’ll be good when he’s on the second pairing playing fewer minutes against worse players.

Guhle had difficulty with those minutes, but he could mostly cope. Matheson struggles. Ideally Reinbacher, Guhle, and Hutson end up sharing those minutes and Matheson can outskate bottom 6 players.

Very good road game against a cup contending team (no more or less pretenders than last year when they went to the finals imo) featuring arguably the two best forwards in the league... With our top Dman out.

Not sure why so many posters are not picking the outcome nor the OT approach.

There's a lot for the team to feel good about with that game. On to the next one.

No
Really? You think Hutson is a better skater than Matheson? Maybe the world really is flat.
No question Matheson skates better. He doesn’t seem to be able to cope with his minutes, though. Hutson is one of the few available alternatives. The ideal case would be Reinbacher becoming a true number 1 option with Guhle or some acquisition as the other first pairing player.

I expect Matheson to be better with fewer minutes and worse competition.

I absolutely don’t expect Hutson to skate better than Matheson, but he may be more effective in a top role.
