I agree. But then again, Gorton and Hughes aren't giving him many options either. Very few veterans, no faceoff specialist, few defensive specialists. I'm hoping they remedy the situation eventually. I understand they want more organic growth and don't want to hamper the younger players looking for a spot. However, that approach is in conflict with being "in the mix".

Yeah, it's pretty obvious we won't be "in the mix" for playoffs. It's looking more like lottery pick mix. It's a long season and we are expecting Laine back.

I expect Carolina & Buffalo to pass us in standings, but it's definitely possible we stay ahead of Philadelphia, Detroit and Columbus. We likely stay ahead of SJS, too. 5+ pick. Too early still to know for sure.

Habs were in and out of the playoffs spot until Dec last season, I think. It will not be the case this season. The team is putrid and their play in their own end is something I've never seen from any team in the NHL. It's indescribable. How this isn't on a coach is beyond me. There is no chance this team plays like that in their own end if Larry Robinson coaches the D. They hired that other guy who is coaching from upstairs, but what the F does he do nobody knows.

I mean, the Habs only had 2 dman with more than a 100 games of experience tonight: Savard (800) and Matheson (552). The rest is Barron (99), Struble (56), Hutson (7) and Mailloux (1). Not exactly sure what Robinson could do to make this squad less green.

It depends on how we end up there. This year, even if I wasn't banking on us being in the mix (sorry, HuGo—I get why you said it, but we’re not quite there yet), I'm still expecting some things: effort (I see you, Slaf, Dach, Suzuki), disciplined play (looking at you, Barron and Dach, again), and a way better defense than whatever that was last season. So far, . . . well f***!

I get the Islanders are nothing special but they've made the playoffs in each of the past 2 seasons and I wouldn't be surprised if they make it again. It's a solid team with good goaltending.

No I think that the ability to break out of the zone is a quality that can be addressed with the youngsters/prospects we have (I think Hutson could be a #1). I would like to prioritize a more dynamic C line to win cups with. Suzuki is basically Nico Hischier to me. We need a Jack Hughes type of C.

Start with the positive. PK is second best in the league, with today's Horvat goal being a pretty lucky goal. Isles haven't scored in 5 PP include that one 4-3. The PP 12 is the best in the league. And that's all with Dach playing poorly in the first PP Unit, with Suzuki still out of form.
Your defence is kindergarten, so the d-men aren't always quick to react to situations. In my opinion, there isn't as strong forechecking because there are concerns that players may not be able to get back in time.

Everything will get better, I think you will be in the PO.
