Post-Game Talk: Habs lose to Detroit. One team showed up ready, the others left the goalie to dry.

I’m going to pull a someone. I told you we sucked. I said over the summer that we were in the same tier as Chicago snd Phoenix, I’m not going off of a 1 game narrative either, but this game definitely reenforces my opinion.

Not really surprised with the loss more that they were shutout. I got used to seeing Caufield score every game . Slaf should be playing with Dach and Monahan imo. The line he's on is more of a grinder line and it's not clicking at all right now.
Really hope we get to see Slafkovsky with different linemates soon - and give him 15 minutes per game while you're at it. If we're going to send him down I would prefer if it was after 4-5 games so he can get another stint later in the season, so it's kind of urgent in that case to try something else and see if he can benefit from a more favorable situation. Don't see any downside in giving him 1 game with Suzuki and Caufield, 1 game with Dach and Monahan, and wouldn't even hate to see him with Evans and Pitlick (he had chemistry with RHP in preseason). Just gotta get him away from Gallagher, Hoffman, Dadonov types.

As much as I respect MSL I am perplexed as what went behind the strategy to play our most prized forward prospect with 2 guys who clearly have very little passing skills or creativity.

Here it begins. Rushing a prospect that wasn’t rdy and blaming everyone else on the team for that prospect not being rdy. No one could see this coming.

No one cares
Chiarot clearly didn't like Gallagher and neither do we, it's hard to believe that he is signed for such a long time and having him play next to our big rookie is not a good fit at all.

Our D looked overwhelmed and clearly missing Matheson in last night's game.

Allen was amazing.

Sean Monahan looks like he is having fun and playing much better than we thought he would.

Slaf showed some good things last night and will only get better.

Has been the issue for years, they don‘t generate danger when in possession of the puck
They need someone on D who can move the puck and generate offense. Haven’t had that in a long time. Petry on occasion, before that it goes back to Markov and Subban unless I’ve forgotten someone.

No real elite forward though Suzuki and Caufield are getting there.

So in the first they lost all the face offs and did not have the puck. Then they won some face offs and had the puck some times. My conclusion is in hockey you want the puck.

It was weird seeing guys tower over a big kid like Xhekaj, Detroit looked like their pp might take them to the playoffs and their big boys through some tough playoff games.

Here
Dunno what ppl are expecting to watch this season. Seeing Ghule and Harris out there is awesome. They are playing very well. Slaf and AX need to go to Laval asap.

Swap Hoffman for Drouin at this point. He’s fkn useless.

Guys… rookies playing well in a losing effort is the best result we can ask for this season. Adjust expectations lol
Great and accurate post. I agree with everything in it.

I enjoyed the game. The guys were in it, just not able to overcome the opponent due to lack of everything. It's a good way to lose. Losing 8-0 with 12 shots on goal is quite different.

I chuckled when Pierre Houde described a perfect pass through the slot on the rush with “Et Hoffman, lui, était parti ailleurs!” (Hoffman was gone elsewhere). He needs to sit with Drouin.

Will be interesting to see what happens when Armia is back, though Slaf might be sent down by then. But Pez is also waiting.

Caufield - Suzuki - Anderson
Monahan - Dach - Gallagher
Pitlick - Dvo - Dadonov/Drouin/Hoffman
Pez - Evan's- Armia

My eyes didn't deceive me. Dach, Monahan and Slaf were the 3 best forwards at generating offense last night based on advanced stats and Slaf had the less offensive zone starts of the 3. Kovacevic leads the team thought.

Dach and Dvorak were the best lines defensively too (in term of lowest amount of chances for Detroit). Oh and Hoffman doesn't really count on the Dach/Monahan lines, they are very much a 2 player line stats wise.

Dach has little grit. He gets pushed around most games. I like him, talented kid, but be real.
5 more years at the gym and some good adversity like scoreless streaks, elbows to the face, his gf leaving him for his uncle or something and pretty soon he’ll be chasing down Darcy Tucker to flatten the little f***er while dangling through the attacking zone… Oop, sorry I got worked up there.

Well, you never know; sometimes the goalie will get hot and… oh wait…

This is the worst kind of loss I don't want to see this year.
Let's see some high scoring games instead.

But the injuries to Matheson, Edmundson will hurt an already terrible D-squad.
We still don't have a quaterback for our PP and it won't work until we get one and Habs won't be able to put up a fight until the PP works.

But right now let's go with the obvious.
Xhekaj + Slafkovsky = Laval
Schueneman = Montreal
Pezzetta = Line-up

It's tough for Xhekaj right now, we need to protect him, he's getting exposed big time. Will be worst on the road.
Slafkovsky.....get him some ice-time. Playing him 10 minutes a night, no PP won't do him any good.

Even if it's not much, Pezz and Schueneman some experience.
