Monty with the 844 sv%
He can't handle 4-5-6 games in a tight timeline.......................we need something to happen after the break to get us a backup who can help Monty carry the load.
There probably aren't a lot of goaltenders who can. While there were some goals he should have stopped his teammates should have been making his job easier considering his workload. Team defense was terrible.

He's going to be the backup at best when we compete. We need a #1 goalie, it's either going to be Fowler or someone else.

Blaming Monty is pretty funny coming from peoples who are supposively following the Habs, the guy played in 22 of the last 23 games we played.
No one is blaming him at all................he has not been consistent that's all, and it is showing in spades.
He seems to be amazing in the first two periods, and awful in the 3rd ( Pens game )
Or great for a game or two and then awful for a game.

There is no way he should be even put in this position......we need a backup to help carry the load. He is playing way too much.

Way way to much i'd say, don't remember any Habs goalie in recent history being mishandle that way, they're lucky he hasn't been injured with that kind of loadwork.

Nothing against Matheson, but using him on the right side with another offensive D is not good. Also pretty easy to see the future on the left side is Guhle-Hutson-Xhekaj. Play them there and deal him at the deadline

Price as he matured, became in very good shape, where as Monty still seems a little heavy and out of shape at times? Or is that just me....

Don"t know about that, he looks ok to me, of course if we compare his shape to CP well.....he will never get there, but i'm ready to bet that even Price in his best years hasn't been misused like that......22 of the last 23 games for god sake.

Anyway it's time the Management do something about that, that's for sure.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone address this.

Once it became clear that the BJs were doing with Laine, should the Habs have done the same to their star players?

Edit: just saw @417 comment about this in another thread:

I'm not big on this kind of stuff to be honest, but last night would have been a good game for Xhekaj to remind the Blue Jackets there would be consequences with how they were targeting Laine (which was overtly obvious).

But I suppose with Olivier on their bench, maybe it just wasn't a winning proposition....

Maybe they couldn't find any... stars to unload on :)

I mean what Laine said may all be true, but you just have to think before you run your mouth and sometimes just not say things. What was the upside of saying what he said? Imagine if Monahan came out and said the reason he didn't re-sign (I read earlier that Hughes made him an offer to come back) is because Habs have a losing culture. This place would go ape shit... and we all love Moneyhands. And he is a lot smarter than to say something like that.

I see him as a 1B type goalie. Give him a good defensive structure and split starts and he'll be good. He's not gonna be a clear #1 on a contending team. Ideally Fowler pans out and Monty is the backup.

Is it? I want a team where one of our guys can say "Columbus sucks, f*** 'em..." And them bully them physically all game anyway.
The have to revamp the bottom six and add size, physicality and grit. These guys have to be tough to play against. Habs are a soft team with many smaller guys.

Monty playing this much probably isn't something management expected or wanted this early on. The plan was to likely to give Monty around 55 starts with Primeau getting the rest. Its more a reflection on Primeau's poor play why Monty getting this many starts. It's unfortunate but it's time to move Primeau, it's clear he won't reach his potential here and it does no good to the team or him to keep him around.

We should have won that one, Dach and Caufield could have put it away but failed.

Monty didn't give us a save when we needed it. He's burned out and needs a rest.

Matheson was his usual self.

Hutson continues to impress. He blows my mind. How good will he be at 23-25 years old?

It was a good stretch of games with some tough opponents on the horizon.

The GDT was legendary which made my night, cheers all.
That Dach chance basically was the difference maker in hindsight and also sums up the season for him. He's reminding me a lot of Anderson last year, someone who is getting no luck and can't even even grade A chances.

Thats a tendency of Matheson that Ive noticed a lot. If you get by him he doesnt do much to try to at least make it hard to get a good shot off l. Matheson is no doubt in a role he is not suited for and it's not his fault. Ideally he's a #3 who is paired with a shutdown stay at home D who can cover for him defensively.

Strange that posters are pointing fingers at Monty for last night's outcome. Do people actually watch the game or do they just read this board during games? Habs were playing for the tie in the 3rd and it was just a matter of time before CBJ scored. Not long before the game winning goal, Monty made an unbelievable save on what I thought was a sure goal after golden boy Hutson turned it over with soft play at our blue line.

In fairness to Monty. There aren't really a lot of goalies anymore who could.
