Post-Game Talk: Habs Lose in Shootout

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
We were outclassed tonight to an even bigger extent than we outclassed the Islanders on Thursday.

The team has clawed a point thanks to pure resilience. This is one of the gutsiest groups I've ever seen wearing the Canadiens uniform.

Glad to see the usual suspects spilling liters of internet ink, discussing the monumentally important issue of shootout selections. The toddlers are not happy that the team produced a point out of nothing. The toddlers didn't get their cookie at the end and that's intolerable.

I don't understand that point. Even when you win a faceoff....nobody goes there immediately....everybody regroups anyway .
I do see your point but having to do a quick change takes time for a quick breakout or even the option to advance the puck straight away like Seattle did. I see why Marty would send Dvorak out there in case the other team has the puck and we're defending. I'm not just a fan of using it every time to start OT.

When Montreal misses the playoff by one point, I will remember Dvorak in the shootout on March 22.
I won t but I May remember the goal Bridging the gap 4-4 if They make the playoffs. shootout is Random for the most Part let s face it. Suzuki was great at it at some point, not anymore, CC is a great scorer but not a good shootout scorer…
I think the point lost aginst the Isles is compensated with a point win here. Always better to win against another Eastern contender but let s not be too picky. The only thing I did not like was over playing Monty. The more tired he gets the less likely it is he will be great during the last Games of the season.

Not to shit on Montembeault at all because I think he’s being overplayed, but it’s been 1-2 weak goals per game for a while.

First goal today was very stoppable.

I think what’s encouraging is that if he starts to play better this team will win more games.
Most people absolutely agree with you.........Dobes needs a start, and Monty needs a short rest.

Kudos to the team for the fight back last night..............when the Avs made it 4-1 most habs fans knew the game was over...............and then the comeback ensued. This group will not quit. Very very impressive.
Take the point, and head out on the road. Big week coming up.............

It’s regrettably a true Catch- 22, as the less games Montembeault plays, the less likely will the last games of the season have any meaning.

It's laughable! MSL has this young team playing great hockey and surpassing expectations in a big way. Our core players are all improving and chipping in down the stretch. We have come back from deficits of 2-3 goals in the 3rd period in the last 3 games to secure valuable points. We lose in a shootout and people are losing their shit and punching holes in their parents basement walls over the coach's shooter selection in round 4 of the shootout.

You can't make this shit up!

Dvorak Hahahahahahahaha
Honestly, everyone who is mocking the Dvorak pick to take the shoot out is not aware of his numbers in doing such and is not giving him the credit for playing great much of this year. He is more than capable of making a good move to fool the goalie. In fact, even on this one, he just missed by going to do deep when making his cut back to the left.

Also let's not forget that the mockers have seen more of our players at practices than our coaching staff has.

Yeah, picking fault with shootout decisions is a strange one unless there's a clear pattern of favouritism for an underperformer. Coaches want to win the shootout, they won't give a spot to someone they don't judge to be capable of putting the puck in.

I missed this last game but Slaf's second goal was a beautiful individual effort. Win the board battle, drive to the net, fire a shot. Perfect. Imagine him doing that to win an OT playoff game? My God.

True yet you want him to be there for these 4 points games vs OTT or NYI rather than COL in my opinion,.
I cringe to think what the score would have been if Dobes would have been in nets last night. As it was, the Avalanche hit the goal post and crossbar 3 times.

With only 13 games to go, there are no throw away games. And Montembeault gives us the best chance to have those games against Ottawa and the Islanders remain: "4 point games".

He has one of the highest shootout percentages of all active NHL players with at least 10 career shootout attempts.

The guy scored close to 100 goals in two OHL seasons. Those puck skills don't just evaporate into thin air.
I mean did we not see the backhand top shelf of heaven on his goal in the third , yeah I'm putting the guy who does that in the same game on the shootout

Having read these forums for some years, this forum isn't something I would call particularly toxic. Although recency bias is strong as anywhere.

Guy Larose is always complaining about the complainers. He gives weight to the ol' psychology adage that humans need 5 positives to compensate for a single negative.
