Post-Game Talk: Habs Lose in Shootout

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

It's laughable! MSL has this young team playing great hockey and surpassing expectations in a big way. Our core players are all improving and chipping in down the stretch. We have come back from deficits of 2-3 goals in the 3rd period in the last 3 games to secure valuable points. We lose in a shootout and people are losing their shit and punching holes in their parents basement walls over the coach's shooter selection in round 4 of the shootout.

You can't make this shit up!

MSL has had a littany of critics ever since he started. Yet he's on track of gaining 33+ points (if we play ,500 in our last 13 games) over our position when we finished dead last 3 years ago. It's been a constant progression. 33 points in 3 years is massive. A ,500 team needs 18 more points to become a 100 points teams. We've made-up almost double that amount in 3 seasons.

55 --> 68 --> 76 --> 88 (or more)

His critics give meaning to the idiom "missing the forest for the trees".

Exactly. People completely miss the fact that a REBUILDING TEAM has progressed year over year. These are the same people who criticize Vincent’s coaching in Laval, despite the fact that they’ve been in first overall for a while.

I swear that some posters in here could win the 649 lottery and they'd throw a tantrum when they find out they have to pay for parking when they go to pick up their winnings.

It looked like the team was fading the wrong direction over first dozen or so games this season. They were playing like an unorganized mess. I’ve always been skeptical of MSL. I really did believe we needed a new coach to help propel us to the next step of the rebuild. I can gladly eat crow on that. I think the break the team got from the Four Nations tournament ended up being a lifeline for a lot of the guys on this team as we were on a brutal losing streak before we got that rest, but they seem to be buying into what St. Louis is selling right now.

Great push back to get the 1 point. Everyone was working hard really sucked to see that bullshit penalty on Slaff in OT and should of been 4 against Struble for drawing blood. Lots of positives to take away from the game for me however the negative is Savard. He is getting exploited a lot lately. Doesn't matter who you put with him nobody can help him. His best before date expired a long time ago. Feel sorry for WIFI getting saddled with him. Now the question is if Guile is healthy will MSL let Savard eat hot dogs in press box?
They will call holding on Slaf everytime he's leaning on players with an arm draped around them. It's a detail he will need to improve on. He's got to get his shoulder involved and keep his hands by his side or on his stick. I think that's the third one they've called on him in recent games. He wasn't getting those types of penalties earlier this year because he was no where near as engaged as he is now. I'll live with this Slaf and work on the details.

Which is, imo, the most important attribute a coach can have. If players are still buying what he's selling after 3 seasons, it's a great sign that he's a formidable motivator. You can always find assistants to manage certain strategies, the ol' Xs and Os, but having a second captain as a coach is of the outmost importance.

Honestly, everyone who is mocking the Dvorak pick to take the shoot out is not aware of his numbers in doing such and is not giving him the credit for playing great much of this year. He is more than capable of making a good move to fool the goalie. In fact, even on this one, he just missed by going to do deep when making his cut back to the left.
When was the last time Suzuki scored a jaw dropper. How much better would his moves be at speed. If I'm the coach I'd ask him if he's going to move his feet before I send him out there. We all saw what he can do when he's moving on the goal that got called back. We need him scoring in these shoot outs.

I hate the slow strategy. Best way to offset a goalie is with speed.

Quick shoutout to Stroobs man

I can't believe how well he's playing filling in for Guhle, no small feat
Last year too his first half was like whoa who is this guy, but then kind of tailed off near the end there as most rookies do

But now this year, doesnt play most the 1st half because we had no injuries to LD's, now comes in to help fill this huge Guhle hole and is really standing out physically and playing strong while still being a young LD learning the NHL ropes barely 100 NHL games

We've traded Romanov and Harris and STILL have a surplus at LD lmao I've never seen anything like it
Not everybody is going to get a chair hut god damn it'll be interesting to see what's done about Struble and Engstrom..
I kinda.. don't really wanna...lose Struble honestly.. but you can't be a #7 all your life.. argh

(Also I thought Arber played just fine and had a HUGE fight to help try to spark the guys a bit there, but his physicality in general was much needed either way)

Anyway, props to our young LD's , there are NHL teams out there probably in disbelief at our depth there, no joke lol

1. Dvorak has great SO stats
2. Will you remember Suzuki and Caufield's failed attempts too?
And Suzuki or Caufield didn't tie the game at 4-4 to send it to OT and nab a yuge point

In FACT, a Caufield goal was MUCH needed last night but I'm not gonna kill the kid for it lol, he's done a lot this year

He's just fine how he's approaching it as is. He's a 40% shooter which is above average in comparison to the rest of the league. I'm sure he'll adjust accordingly as he moves forward with his career. It would be lovely if he was a 60% but alas, he is not.

I disagree he's been terrible this season far too predictable.

I hate the retreat to the center zone ad nauseam. Imagine how boring a full game of 3 on 3 would be. Yikes. The first few years of 3 on 3 ot's were the best, then the coaches ruined it.
They may have ruined it but we were terrible at it if you recall.

They were a young team playing a defensive system new to them. It was going to take awhile to get used to.

I noticed that. The Av's simply moved their defenseman a little higher. Which totally took Laine out of the play.
Yes, so rest of the unit should have more space. It's 4vs3 then, should be easier to score.

Caufield should have scored that first chance. I don't mind that Laine is stationary there. That takes one PK player out.

Some of you have said, that PP would be as effective without Laine. So there is the chace. They should use their opportunity.

You'd think so, but the rest of the players didn't take advantage. Also considering that Laine is our top PP scorer. The last thing I want the Habs to do is use him as a decoy. I'd rather the Habs use Laine similar to how Washington use Ovie. He's usually in the same spot. Yet he will move to get into better position for a shot.

I don't think the Laine Caufield redundancy is helping. We really need another lefty on it IMO.
I think we don't.

It think it works ok. They still needs preps, but they operate from right side and I like how Suzuki and Caufield swaps places as does Suzuki and Hutson. Suzuki should be more on QB position. That pass to Laine is more quicker that way.

good post. Yeah, the good thing is its easily identifiable on video and correctable.

watching slaf pick that puck off the wall and rip one past blackwood was so exciting. He's going to be a handful
