Post-Game Talk: Habs Lose in Shootout

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
Oh you mean that time out Marty shouldn't have had because he'd already used it before the 5v3 after his guys were already a minute in? :badidea:
Meanwhile Bednar has no problem spending his to rest his top guns.
Suzuki ended up having like a 4 minute shift. That was a no-brainer. If we still need a timeout by the end of the game, we can switch goalies which buys them time.

Great push back to get the 1 point. Everyone was working hard really sucked to see that bullshit penalty on Slaff in OT and should of been 4 against Struble for drawing blood. Lots of positives to take away from the game for me however the negative is Savard. He is getting exploited a lot lately. Doesn't matter who you put with him nobody can help him. His best before date expired a long time ago. Feel sorry for WIFI getting saddled with him. Now the question is if Guile is healthy will MSL let Savard eat hot dogs in press box?

Dvorak in shootout was pee-wee B type of decision from the coach. Slaf had 2 goals tonight he deserved the chance…

- Laine is essential to Canadiens. He is big , he has a hockey head , he is a PP master and I think next year he will be even better.

- Caufield is good man he reminds me Martin St-Louis

- Suzuki is a mini Patrice Bergeron

- Montembeault is not that good

- Primeau GAA 4.70 in 11 games will maybe cost a playoffs spot

- Next Year add eastablished 2nd center + Demidov and we are 100% in a playoff spot

- Gallagher , Dvorak and Anderson are playing big hockey

- Colorado Avalanche is gonna win the cup this year

Incorrect. I heard on a good authority from SN that Leafs will win the cup this year. And every year after that.

Slap some war paint on him and unleash
Road Warrior AX. :)

Oh what a rush...

I really don't care what happens this year. This is the start of something great. The culture. The emotion. Been a long time since I've been proud of our team's effort and dedication like that. The GM needs to get to work in the draft and summer....but the foundation has arrived. This team is on their way up from now on. Finally.

For real, just let your best guys go ham, no need to be so kosher.
I don't know who knows idea it is to start Dvorak just for the face-off but it should not be a regular strategy. Even if he wins the draw, the fact he has to switch off means we can't immediately attack and so the other team has the chance to set up defensively.

It's just a flawed strategy. Trust Suzuki to win it and if he doesnt accordingly.

I don't understand that point. Even when you win a faceoff....nobody goes there immediately....everybody regroups anyway .

Dvorak in shootout was pee-wee B type of decision from the coach. Slaf had 2 goals tonight he deserved the chance… Dvorak has been playing well lately and scored a beautiful goal in the third period. Can't really fault MSL for going with the hot hand.

- Laine is essential to Canadiens. He is big , he has a hockey head , he is a PP master and I think next year he will be even better. Probably the most one dimensional player on the team. His lack of speed / quickness is a real liability in all game situations other than on the power play.

- Caufield is good man he reminds me Martin St-Louis . He's quicker than MSL but not nearly as strong on his skates. Caufield has developed into one of the most dynamic players in the league.

- Suzuki is a mini Patrice Bergeron While Suzuki has more offensive creativity than Bergeron he is not in Bergeron's class when you compare overall game skills, particularly defensively and killing penalties.

- Montembeault is not that good But for Montembeault this game would have been over in the first period.

- Primeau GAA 4.70 in 11 games will maybe cost a playoffs spot A lot of factors will have contributed to that unfortunate outcome.

- Next Year add eastablished 2nd center + Demidov and we are 100% in a playoff spot With league parity a lot of teams are close to playoff contenders if they add a few pieces. I would say that as we recycle/replace some of our older fringe players with the host of young prospects arriving ( Demidov, Hage, Fowler, Beck Reinbacher, etc.) our chances to make the playoffs will improve significantly.

- Gallagher , Dvorak and Anderson are playing big hockey Anderson , particularly, was a beast tonight and really intimidated the Avalanche defence on the forecheck. He was a man on a mission. I thought both Struble and Xhekaj played strong physical games. If those three players continue to bang bodies, Montreal will be a tough team to play against.

- Colorado Avalanche is gonna win the cup this year Not with their goaltending.
Just my quick responses and thoughts about one of the more interesting games the Canadiens played this year.

Not to shit on Montembeault at all because I think he’s being overplayed, but it’s been 1-2 weak goals per game for a while.

First goal today was very stoppable.

I think what’s encouraging is that if he starts to play better this team will win more games.
