Post-Game Talk: Habs lose Blackhawks in a Shootout. Fail to clinch Playoffs.

Stole this from Reddit, but this is what Gallagher was arguing to the refs about:

Once Laine shot, it was too late to go back and change Nazar's shot to a goal call.

Demidov should have shot first anyway.

Anyway I would have hated it if we clinched because of a missed shootout goal. They scored, we didn't. We deserved the loss.

Against Philly, they were ok and dominated the last 30 minutes. Not THAT bad.

They’re gassed. Their leaders have been overplayed because of lack of talent and depth.

Tonight was the night to win it, even in OT. But they looked spent.
Then why even want to make the playoffs? It's even more tiring.

Like I've been saying, the playoffs with this roster is asking for injuries and potentially f***ing up the rebuild.

We don't even have our future goalie in the lineup yet.

Making the playoffs with a -22 goal differential is insane. Even if we make it, the team is out of gas, I don't see us lasting long. Maybe Dobes could have his Halak moment but they're going to use Montembeault until we're eliminated so probably not.

I agree but it will be a good stepping stone for next season. Hopefully they learn from playing in pressure games at the end of the season and what it takes to win.

As a note Washington made it last season with a -37 goal differential.

tonight was garbage from him, but let's not pretend like there isn't other "influences" deciding the outcome of NHL (betting) Games.
Get yourself some evidence then you can have that conversation. Until then, this isn’t even decent speculation, it’s conspiracy noise, whining without receipts. God Lord!

Leroux in l'Antichambre : ''Carolina has nothing to gain, Canadiens can win this game''

We just lost against the worst f***ing team in the league, it doesn't mean anything lol.
Chicago has a lot of young players fighting for a roster spot. And very good ones at that. They had nothing to lose. Besides, Nick Foligno is a great captain.
It's very difficult to play against teams like that. Just look at the centers, Berard and Nazar.

These past few performances have left a poisonous mark on this team. Just an all time collapse.

From a 99% chance to making the playoffs to absolutely choking this away. One of the biggest chokes of all time.

If Thursday turns into a must win (which I believe it will) there is zero chance this team pulls through. We are playing timid, scared hockey. I expect us to get blown out Thursday.
We're at 93.9%.

If the Habs had gotten to this point with three wins, you guys would be saying the complete opposite of this. We are 4 points ahead of Columbus with them having to win both games in regulation, while we play a resting Carolina at home.

I wonder how you all were talking when we went 1-3 against Toronto in 2021. 🤣

That's not the wording of the rule, and they're intepreting it as if the shootout is the same as regulation timed play. I read both rules here, and a shootout attempt isn't necessarily considered "resuming play".

Also Ghule gave them a reason to play and they took pleasure in shutting down the fans

Yeah, I agree. It's just interesting that the refs decided not to call it by the rules.

Experience for 53% of this roster, Buf / Ana / Utah etc have never had their young players come close to experiencing this…. NHL is the best league in the world, experience matters, and there’s only one way to get it…

Why would we except to beat the canes
agreed. this was THE must win game and they completely shat all over themselves. Not feeding off the momentum Demidov gave the team and doing next to absolutely nothing (never mind the endless over passing, the never shooting when having a clear lane (that pass Lane made when he was alone in front of the goalie completely blew my mind, in a bad way. It was a total fluke that it ended up going in) and then missing the net on every possible opportunity (including open nets) that result in turn overs and glorious chances for the Hawks was just...terrible.

Foligno must be livivng in their heads because i've never seen one guy be so incredibly dominant like that guy (this goes back all the way to his Sens days). He must truly hate the habs. Xhekaj sitting a third game in a row while we continue to suffer Matheson's comical blunders (directly responsible for the second goal against) and then MSL just can't get enough of those...Kent must be seriously questioning the contract extension. In order for the habs to take the next step, Marty will need to improve or they'll need to change the coach. No way I want us to go into next season with this version of MSL.

I can't even remember the last time we beat the Canes and fully expect that game to be a blowout. The fact that we now have to hope Columbus drops the ball to make it in makes me kind of want the habs to miss the playoffs so that some serious reflection can take place on the hows it happened.

Newhook has stone hands and the IQ of a turnip, he's an offensive black hole out there killing plays left and right. I don't care if he's trying hard, he's useless and hurting the team with his inability to produce.
Same was said about Lekhonen

The pressure is clearly too much for this team to handle right now. Very disappointing, what a choke to end the season. This could very well set our franchise back a few years.
