Your 100% right and that's why I think the Habs make minor moves instead. If I'm the Habs, there is no way I'm paying a heavy price for a top 4D over 30 and over paid.
As a habs fan no way the habs are moving Juulsen or Sergechev for a 30 year old Edler. If Juulsen is packaged among other players, it would have to bring back a younger top 4 D like Fowler.
If the Habs are truly in Win Now mode, then they need a D that can carry over for possibly a couple seasons.
Edler is not that guy at his salary and play potential.
If they want a Cup, pay the price and get what they need, but that's not Bergevins style. He likes his low cost rehab projects.
Edler is a top pairing d-man right now. Do you honestly think he'll decline so hard and suddenly that he won't at least be a top 4 d-man for the remainder of his contract? He's signed for two more years, not five.

They need to start blowing their wad to creating a team now, while Price is in his prime. So it's nice to see them thinking about aggressively making moves to improve for the near future.
umm beaulieu is on pace to double his point totals to 30 this year as a 23 year old...and he's second in NHL in plus/minus and isn't playing with Weber. he's underrated and it's ridiculous

Plus/minus stat is so meaningless, why mention it.
Has Beauchemin been brought up in here?

Yes. We already have Markov pulling top 4 LD minutes, Beauchemin would not be a good fit here because of it (he can't do top 2 LD minutes for a full season + playoffs at his age).
Beauchemin is better than you think. He played 25 min/per game last year. But it's true, he's comparable to Markov because of age.
I'm not saying Beauchemin isn't good. He's comparable-ish to Markov, but we already have Markov in our team. I wouldn't want to lose Plekanec, an overpaid shutdown C, for something that won't fix much of a problem but will add a big one instead.
Emelin, 30 (LD, 4.1M signed through 2018),
Plekanec, 30 (C, 6M signed through 2018)
(total 10.1M)
Beauchemin, 36 (NMC, must be protected at Expansion draft, LD, 4.5M signed through 2018)
Soderberg, 31 (Limited NTC, C, 4.75M signed through 2020)
(total 9.25)
This trade is a way for Colorado to unload Beauchemin to protect at the expansion draft: Johnson, Barrie and Zadorov. Emelin can play 20min and is very physical.
