Leafs are playing 3D emotional chess with us. They knew they'd have nothing to play for in last few games so they started f***ing with the lines to make it interesting.

I know Keefe wants to rest guys and i agree, but Matty, Mitch and Willie are chasing some milestones...
Mitch - 2 goals for 30, 5 points for 100
Matty - 2 goals for 40
Willie - 3 goals for 40

You KNOW they'd all like a shot at these, and Mitch was already a little po'd at getting rested the one game. The thought of any injuries is horrifying but I think the boys would be pretty cranky if they didn't get a shot at these.

They may not have the cap space to sit everyone but it’d be nice if Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Brodie, Gio, McCabe and Samsonov could sit the remainder of the schedule after tonight. ROR also sits against Tampa. Woll plays 1, Murray plays the others.

That's too long of a break for Samsonov imo, rather see him get a game closer to the end to stay sharp.

But the 2nd last game of the year is Tampa, I really don't want him starting that one. I think I'd like to see him start the finale against NY, even if they plan ahead to only give him 2 periods or something.

Everyone ready to drop Simmonds of the face of the earth without realizing he was low key very good in his last few starts.

Simmonds is apart of this team, and if things get nasty or we go far and accumulate injuries he'll be a huge part of our depth when we need more grit.

He's been well rested and practicing with the team all year, it's not like he's lost out there when playing either.

Totally agree. Especially if the thugs in Tampa start getting ugly, there's no-one I'd rather have on the bench than simmer.

From Hockey News

As of Saturday morning, the Maple Leafs have just $38,750 in salary cap space available according to CapFriendly.com. Because Murray was injured with less than 10 games remaining in the regular season, the goaltender is not eligible to be placed on long-term injured reserve for cap relief.

With Maple Leafs prospect Matthew Knies's collegiate season ending later today, the NHL club is not in a position where they'd be able to add him to their NHL roster due to a lack of space.

If Murray cannot back up Samsonov tonight, the Leafs could possibly play short at the goaltending position for tonight and have an emergency backup goaltender dress against the Canadiens. After playing a game short, the Leafs would be permitted to add an additional player on an emergency basis with a salary cap hit of $850,000 or less.

Will Nylander be back tonight?
nobodies really sure, so far there hasn't been a doctor thats ever worked in any sport or even did a residency at St Eligius that's ever been able to correctly diagnose a deep ego bruise, I'm sure (hoping) he'll be fine for the game 1 puck drop.

I must be missing something so if anyone could help me understand things better I would be grateful …………………

We are tight to the cap obviously. Murray’s status is very iffy, and it’s uncertain / doubtful that he can back up tonight so we’re forced to go with an EBUG (it would be so great if it was Cujo - but I digress).

So in this situation why is Joseph Will being send down ? To bring up Wayne Simmons ?

Why ?

For “one last home game” (which Sheldon Keefe denies) at the expense of not having a qualified NHL back-up, and having to play Samsonov in a game he should be watching from the bench eating popcorn
.

Can anyone explain the logic of this to me ? What if Samsonov is injured playing in this otherwise meaningless game ?

Why not:
- leave Simmons on the Marlies tonight (on paper as he will not play for them)
- play Woll tonight against the Canadiens then send him down after the game
- then sign Matthew Knies tomorrow (after Minnesota wins the NCAA championship) when Woll is with the Marlies and presumably we have the necessary cap space.
- play Samsonov against Florida (to keep him fresh) but NOT against Tampa (‘cause they might try to try “to take him out” in that game given that Tampa is in a bit of a tailspin and hampered by injuries themselves ).

Any thoughts ?
:help:

If he back checks and plays positional hockey, but is less engaged in puck battles, in good with that
the problem is he seems to be spending most of his TOI between the bluelines, he may not be but he
really has been looking listless over the last 10 or so

Keefe is toying with Cooper right now, he's got him right where he wants him.

View attachment 683869

Cooper just burned his folder of game tape titled “Leafs Goalie Weaknesses” and screamed at an intern to go learn everything about whoever this D’Agostini guy is.

Cooper is trying to keep himself from breaking down in tears after realizing he needs to go back to the drawing board AGAIN after his 11-7, 1LW Kerfoot, and Nylander-Tavares-Marner deep research documents proved to be worthless. Stamkos is trying to calm the room down telling them that it’s ok, Cooper will figure Keefe’s machinations out. He knows he is lying, but that’s what a good captain does.

I'd rather have a healthy team for the playoffs, if they care that much about individual stats vs team accomplishment then we are doomed.
