Man, what a dog shit lineup. I'm guessing we'll see many cuts after this one.

On the contrary my friend. This is a near perfect pre-season lineup. It has all of the bubble forwards, fighting to make the team. It's a great game, to see where each player is, and for them to make the pitch to be in the opening day lineup. So, it will be good to see their performances, with their future this season, on the line.

Yes, it's not a NHL lineup, but it's a great show me lineup.

I can appreciate your optimism but that lineup is making me think I'd rather watch the Jays.

It isn't so much about optimism, as I don't care about winning, or losing. All of the prospects fighting for a job, will be playing the same team, so it's a good opportunity to judge where they are at. I enjoy watching our prospects grow, and seeing where they are at. These games aren't about winning, they are an audition, so the interest is more in the individual play, what these guys bring. For the vets, it's a tuneup, where winning or losing doesn't matter either... just getting ready. But I'm interested in seeing where each of these guys are, and which 2-3 guys might make the opening day lineup.

You totally can. They have this one guy who is trying to hit the most home runs ever or something like that playing against them.

I was referring to your optimism in thinking it's a 'perfect pre-season lineup'.
I envy you getting enjoyment out of this, I'm not as interested.

I mean preseason is only preseason so it's never that great to watch but tonight's roster has one one of the regular goalies, 3 of the top 4 D plus 3 D fighing for the #7/8 slots, and everyone in competition for the 2nd and 3rd lines other than the injured Tavares or Engvall, including literally all of the interesting kids up front (Robertson, Holmberg, Steeves, Abruzzese, Anderson, Douglas), so as far as preseason games go this would be one to watch as a fan I would think.

The absences from this lineup also suggest that the top line will remain intact to start the year, and that a 4th line of ZAR-Kampf-NAK is probably a go.

Getting time for Robertson to show something. That line is a big opportunity for him.

Those top two lines there are plausible opening night lines if Tavared and Engvall are still out. Though Engvall is most likely in so one of Holmberg, Malgin, Robertson will be booted out by opening night, and another one booted out when Tavares is healthy.

Of course if none of the kids can swim we could always go back to having guys like Simmonds and Clifford in like last year but I hope not.

Win for Xhekaj, if he takes Douglas off the ice.

Douglas was 60 points in 62 games his last OHL season.
Xhekaj was 34 points in 51 games in his OHL overage year.

I think Douglas can play some hockey, don't know about Xhekaj yet.
We know it’s an awesome name, and a helluva scrabble word if names were allowed.
Isn’t that enough?

We shall judge this season by tonite's game
All sorts of wild conclusions will be able to be drawn from this result of this game, based on the responses from the last one.. :wg:

This is the Leafs team vs the Habs team that finished last overall this past season.

All kidding aside .. First chance to see Murray in action as a Leaf, and his first game since March 5th.

Holmberg auditioning for Swiss Army knife.
Up and down the rookie tourney lineup, up n down the pre-season lineup.

That Leafs defense tonight might actually be pretty close to Leafs open night defense to start the season, with Muzzin and Liljegren injured, and Sandin unsigned presently.

Rielly - Benn
Giordano - Brodie
Dahlstrom - Mete

Subsitute Holl for Dahlstrom and based on the current status of players that will be the best 6 Leafs options might have.

Really need Muzzin back and Sandin signed.

what I like is that he's been pretty exclusively at C other than i think the first game of rookie tourney, which means he's probably impressing the brass at C so far (i have to say i agree with them - he looks very solid to me).

Holmberg
Robertson
Douglas
Murray

Not necessarily in that order but that's who I'm looking at for great games tonight.

Been surprised by Holmberg so far. Most likely going back to Marlies but he seems to get better every year and doesn't look out of place.

If he forces the issue, there’s a good case to be made for spreading the offence over three lines.
The more guys forcing the issue, the better.

How much were your tickets?

Having one of the kids come up and show as a legit NHL C would be pretty clutch.

I mean even if it means Kampf moves back up to 3C and Holmberg at 4C that's still fine, though obviously i'd want Holmberg's offensive upside to be given a better chance than that.

But we never really had an actual 4C last year at all so Holmberg continuing to show he can handle the defensive side of the C position could be a clutch upgrade either way. With any offense being a cherry on top.

Ahh yes. I've seen the Karen's complain on Twitter too. Imagine going to a preseason game, and not expecting a preseason roster? There are rosters like this every year, at some point. I agree though, the ticket prices are not worth the roster that will be iced, but then I'm not naive to think this what couldn't happen in preseason.
