Are the Habs likely to tank next year? That will figure in to who they move out.

Will be hard to tank with Price.

why?

his regular season stats over the past 4 years are no better than allens, they are actually worse

last 4 regular seasons......2018-2022

Price average SV% .907

Allen average SV% .911

Hoffman
Byron
Armia
Drouin
Allen
Petry
Savard or Edmundson

If Mtl can find a way to unload half of these players, they maybe in good shape for inserting the the young players in the system plus a couple of free agents.
Hoffman : Nope
Byron : TDL 2023
Armia : Nope
Drouin : TDL 2023
Allen : Needed
Petry : Most Likely
Savard : Nope
Edmundson : Needed

Other than Petry i dont think many will be moved. Drouin, Byron and Allen will probably be worth more at TDL if they can put up some numbers

Try to move any of them, but only Petry is a real priority. Even then, if no one comes knocking, you keep him and tell him to get his things in order because no one will trade for him if he plays like this.
I think the habs will be in wait and see mode until the season is underway. They don't know yet which prospects will be ready to make the jump so no need to spend assets to trade hoffman or armia. By next year's deadline, with byron and drouin (maybe Allen) traded, the door should start opening for some younger players.

Some Sabres fans have some interest in Petry and his family being in Detroit as well as our cap space make it practical. Personally I don't hate the idea, but I wouldn't be willing to give up anything of value.

Trade Hoffman for a late pick
Keep Byron until TDL and try and get a late pick or let him expire
Armia, maybe retain if you can have value for him
Keep Drouin until TDL and try and get a late pick or let him expire
Keep Allen, see how Price situation resolves, can't trade him if Price isn't back
Petry, maybe retain if you can have value for him
Keep Savard and Edmundson, specially if you trade Petry
They can't go with all early 20 dmen no matter how much potential the likes of Romanov, Harris, Barron, Ghule etc have. they might move one of the 3 dmen if they get value back.

I would keep:
Hoffman
Savard
Edmundson
Byron

OUT
Armia : 4th rd
Drouin : 3rd
Allen : mid First pick or a decent Prospect
Petry : 4th rd
Allen is not getting a first round pick - - goalies do not have that type of trade value unless they are top tenders.

Drouin isn't returning anything this offseason. If he actually plays some games next season, he may fetch a late round pick at the TDL. More likely, though, he's around until his contract expires after next season.

Would give Hoffman for a 7 but i dont think it will be a demand for him.

Petry have to go

Drouin: im dont know what to think of him...

Keep: Edmundson and Savard for the young def.

Please someone take Armia from us... talent but no heart.

Would keep Byron if he want to sign for a lot less... good veteran.

Find a way to trade Gallagher... big heart but his body is hurt big time...

Price: would trade him if the demand is there.

No matter what you do, I think it's better to trade them only if they're on expiring contracts or in their last year. It's easier to retain 50% to maximize the return. Honestly, other than Price and Gallagher, Habs are fine. Just got to hope HuGo does a great job in the upcoming years. I don't know, I could see them use some draft picks to acquire a player they like.

Fowards
1. Hoffman

If he has a good season and someone is willing to offer a late 2nd or 3rd, go. If not, trade in 2023-2024 and retain 50%

2. Byron
50% at trade deadline

3. Armia
Either wait until 2023-2024 or 2024-2025 to trade him. Could always retain 1-1.5M to make him more "worthy" of his salary if you don't want to wait until 2023-2024.

4. Drouin
50% at the trade deadline for what ever.

5. Gallagher
No clue... it all depends if he can comeback into peak condition or not.... We're stuck with him until at least 2024-2025...

Goalies:
1. Allen

You keep unless you've got an offer you cannot refuse.

2. Price
I'd be open to offers. We're tanking and I don't know if he's really down to go down this route and possibly never reach the finals again. Obviously, no choice to retain 50% of his salary. If he's capable to play good I could see a 1st + A prospect. Don't think it'll happen next season though.

Dmen:
Petry

Make him play, hope he looks good and get something in return. We can always retain up to 50%, but I would rather not use it for a lot of years, but it is what it is. If he's back in peak condition I can see maybe a late 1st, but I think a 2nd is the highest someone will bid.

Savard and Edmunson:
You keep both of them, the defence squad is way too young and you need vets.

Cary Price will be 35 this summer. Untradable this offseason given his year off and substance issues on top of that contract.

Next offseason he’ll be 36. You think a team trades a 1st and A prospect for a 36 year old with 3 more years on that deal? WTF… some of you really believe that?

1. Can’t see interest in Hoffman before Ufa year maybe. So we’re stuck with him for at least another year.
2. I agree. I think we can have a late pick for byron at TDL 50% retained. Traded
3. Armia isn’t bad in my book. Good seize. Contract doesn’t hurt that much. We will have an occasion to trade him in the next 2 years
4. Exactly. Or Drouin buried.
5. Were Indead stuck with him. Really bad contract.

6. I think Allen is 100% traded before next year TDL. I think one of Price or Allen is traded has soon as this summer.
7. I would also be opened to trade Price with retention for a good package.

I would also trade Petry with money retention. If we can’t move him. I’d move Edmundson. So Savard and either Petry or Edmundson for D vets.
