Post-Game Talk: Habs good. Habs win.

Caufield's 2 point game tonight has him closing in on PPG. He now has 23g, 17a for 40 pts in 41 gp.

Suzuki's goal keeps him slightly above PPG. He has 13g, 29a for 42 pts in 41 gp.

Slafkovsky has 19a in 38 gp. He's still on pace for a 48 pt season, which is 2 pts off the 50 he got last season. Last year at the 41gp mark, he had 15 pts. He's at 23 pts in 38 gp this year (he's missed 3 games). Hoping he's a 2nd half player & starts riding again.

We've officially hit the halfway point of the season. Suzuki is on pace for 84 pts. Caufield 80pts. I'm hoping Suzuki can push it to 90 pts & Cole 85 pts.

I see Slaf is trying to play his game like Suzuki. 4 lines that can carry the puck. Not a lot of dump and chase.Hutson is already one of the best d in the league, he plays every position and the team understands him now. He breakouts as a forward sometimes ahead of the play and a forward plays his spot behind the blue with matheson.

You want him to become Patrick Roy. Steve Penny is only good for a year or so.

Summer 2025 was always the target, because so many contracts end. I really hope we make room for Demidov by trading Newhook. He's not a bottom 6 player and is a really below average top 6 player. He could fit with a team like Chicago, who desperately needs more speed in their lineup. Or even NYI.

I think they figured out you can’t go all youth…you need some experienced vets leading the way….thus, the guys many of us wanted out have now found their niche. Our whole 3D line for example plus 2/3 of our 4th line. Oh, and don’t forget Matheson and Savard….trading any of the guys I’ve alluded to for more draft picks is asinine if you ask me. We have enough young guys hoping to come up to Montreal and we have enough draft picks in the next few years. If our vets are killing it, leave them alone and assess the situation during the off-season.

But of course, the new players added this year are really making a huge difference:
Hutson
Heineman
Laine
Carrier
Dobes
 
scenario: Habs continue to gel as a team, emerging as unlikely contenders against all odds, and start to look like the '86 Habs reborn. then, in the spring, geopolitics intervenes. tariff wars between the US and Canada gets real nasty, culminating in a total breakdown in diplomatic relations. right around May, faced with no other choice because cross-border travel is suspended, the NHL decides to cancel the Stanley Cup playoffs.

whenever the league starts up again, the magic is simply gone and the HuGo Habs return to mediocrity. the life of a Habs fan: we are here to suffer :sarcasm:
