Been some rumours Habs may go off the board with their pick. Guy they like slated to go later in draft. Our pick currently sits at 6th. Wondering what it's value would be to trade down? Ideally something between 8-25th. If a Team close to cap wants to move big contract. We have 20 million in caproom this summer. Could be a match?

Sens got Debrinkat for 7th last year, but this is better draft. Kings got Fiala for 19th. We could look this years version of similar trade. A first line forward plus 19th pick for the 6th? Or something basic like give us a 2nd for you to move up couple slots in draft?

teams outright trading top 10 picks are generally panic moves where teams fel the need to win now and not wait A year for the prospect to be playing for the team.

montreal has no business doing that.
sure if there is a player you target but isn’t at 6OA you might trade down a few picks and pick up a 2nd at least

What "rumours" are you referring to and why wouldn't the Canadiens just use the Panthers pick for a player they like that is slated to go later in that draft if there was any truth to that?

This makes zero sense. This alleged rumour sounds like utter nonsense. Please show me where you are getting these rumours from.

Montreal is not trading a likely top 6. period.
Maybe the panthers' pick is in play for an
elite, young forward. maybe

How are their rumours of any team going off the board when no one knows the draft order and the draft is months away, with both teams and prospects still playing?

If a team already knows who they are drafting in mid-March that may be a problem of its own lol
there isnt any. The OP needed to add that so his post makes sense.....

The Habs are not dealing that pick. The Florida one....that I could see

If this is true I’m guessing MTL is looking at Reinbacher or Gulyayev. Both would be “off the board” at 4-6 but probably gone by the time Florida picks.

I also read something to the OP's post. Buy it appeared to be more of a thought than a rumour. It did mention the Habs going off board with their 1st OA pick but seems way out the realm of any reality.

I'm sure you would but that does nothing for the Habs.

Draft is said to be really good and we are rebuilding . We need the best player available . We have plenty of youngsters waiting for their shot.

If Nashville see someone they really like at 6, their pick plus one of their 2nds plus maybe a 3rd might be fairish value.

If the player(s) Montreal like are ranked 20+ then just draft the best prospect at 6 and then just pick with the Florida 1st.

If true, this sounds more like Montreal's management seeing what the market is like after a crazy trade deadline and some values a lot higher than expected.

I don’t understand. Due to the robbery of the Chiarot trade, you’ll pick around 7th (yours) and 15th overall (Florida’s pick).

Just use the 15th pick to go off the board. Take BPA at 6/7th overall (your pick). Take a risk at Florida’s mid 1st rounder which is a “found money” pick for Montreal.

Also trust in your GM. He’s a good one I believe.

Also thinking maybe offer Philly the Florida pick for Travis Konecny. Philly needs to shed some salary.

15th OA pick + F Mesar or Justin Barron for Travis konecny.
Could see mesar make sense, but more likely that they go after Dubois with the Florida pick as part of a package

Dubois, Stanley, Jets 1st for Habs 1st, Florida 1st, Dach (or similar center potential player)
Since Peg and Florida’s pick is almost the same. Take them out.

Dach + 6th overall for Dubois is an overpay by the Habs IMO.

Maybe Dach + 15th for Dubois + Heinola? Could make value work given how good the Habs farm is. But Dubois is a year from UFA so his value is affected by that.
