And yet somehow they're in almost every game.

I too want another top pick.

But they refuse to roll over.

The one thing this team has never lacked is CHaracter. It's been that way forever.
That’s the thing, they will be mid/bad forever if they don’t rebuild properly.

Winnipeg plays a heavy game and I thought Montreal held their own in that regard. I've noticed the back check pressure has been much improved the last couple games.
The one goal late in the second was a direct result of soft play particularly Evans on that shift if he's hard on the puck we clear the zone easily.

Offensively, he's been good for us. Defensively, there's still a lot of work to do. He tends to hesitate & over think on the ice. It leads to him getting forechecked & losing the puck. He needs to continue to upgrade his foot work.

he's far from where he shold be defensively, but offensively he's been very good. Already has 6 goals. I think he's only going to get better he's still very young for a D at 22yo.
Good to hear, I hope he progresses in the all right directions for you guys.

I understand the concerns, I believe we need some top level offensive talent the kind you usually can only get from drafting high. But it's just difficult for me to fault a team for playing hard, especially a young one..

Them learning how to win also reaps it's own rewards.

Maybe if we develop enough winners Hughes can trade for the help we need from a position of strength.

I dunno, I still thinks it's far too early to see entirely where this team is ultimately headed.

I just know after decades, we're finally moving in a better direction.

I know people want to shit on Matheson but its easier to look good as a d man playing 12 minutes versus 25. Struble looks good but lets calm down.

No need to be calm, he's been the steadiest of our D since his call up. This isn't me shitting on Matheson, or others, just giving Struble his flowers.

I realize he isn't being taxed like others on the team, but whenever he is on the ice, he's looked and played extremely solid.

It's fair to say the others play more and therfore more prone to mistakes due to it, but he's rarely making errors as far as I can tell with his ice time.

He's very steady and poised, as a rookie it's extremely impressive.

I'm not ready to anoint him with first pairing minutes though. I don't even think his ceiling reaches that height, but he's been quietly great.

And I love seeing it.

Sure thing boss. I'm sorry if you don't see it but I trust it's there in plain view for all to see. The consistency cannot be ignored and he deserves more TOI.
The boys at AC all agree he should be getting a couple of minutes more and Matheson a couple less.

I agree. Tonight was his 74th career NHL game. And he's better than he was a year ago when he was in Laval this time last year.

I think Barron should be PP1 before Matheson. I think Lowry did us a favor getting Matheson to the box.
I think PP1 should be
Caufield Suzuki Monahan
Matheson Barron

74th career game, and 28 points lol which is pretty good when you think about it
For contrast, Chiarots career high is 21 lol
Edmundson 20
Savard hasn't had 25 points in 9 years lol

I think Barron could be special for us in 3-4 years, as in hopefully can hit that Markov/Subban 60 pt threshold
If not him then hopefully Hutson
But 60 is a pretty high bar I'm asking a lot I know

Still makes defensive errors but is an NHLer and has a great shot
Well dont tell them that!!!

He has totally settled in. One of the best shutdown dman a team can ask for with a great offensive upside. Now, what have you got to swing, Avs?

With 60 pts he will still end up -30 on the season :D

Let's put the bar between 30 to 55 pts being realistic. Highest pts career 60 possible.

One of them is playing double the other. This isn’t meant to be a snipe at Struble but come on. How hard is it to be steady with no offensive expectations playing 12 mins a night versus 25? Figure it out guys. Give Struble more ice time but don’t pretend it isn’t obvious why you see one making mistakes more often than the other as if it was a cake walk to be playing over 25 minutes a night.
