Post-Game Talk: Habs defeat Sens - Slaf goes beast mode!

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Not realistic. That’s like asking Caufield to score every game, or Montembault to shutdown the opposing team every game, or Hutson to always be on the scoreboard.

He will have high and lows but if he can constantly apply himself and play a physical game while being a 60/70 point player he will be a difference maker (maybe that’s what you meant).
I don’t expect a scrap every game. I don’t expect a goal every game.

I do expect that kind of effort every game. Gallagher gave it for ten years. The Tkachuk bros do it every night. I don’t see why Slaf can’t.

You have to show up every game.

It has to be innate. He threw his body more tonight but there have been plenty of games where he had 3 or 4 hits. I don't want him to deviate too much from the player he is. The parts of his I liked the most tonight was that he was shooting more, we've barely seen him attempt anything on the PP this year and the chances he created from behind the net or while entering the zone and attract a player. He doesn't need to bulldoze or plow guys every night to make those kinds of impact. He WILL NOT play like that every night. It's not sustainable nor realistic.

Anyway I'm just glad Marty let him play on the first line. And omg can one argue Slaf was the best player on his line tonight? Impossibruh

Thought it was a pretty poor game by both sides.

Fortunately for the Habs, ullmark out sloppied everyone.

Ullmark also sucked in the first head to head game earlier in the season.

Hopefully that's a sign of things to come.

We just need to know if it's in him. He has to move his feet. When he goes into passenger mode, it's not only ineffective, he's a liability. He has to move his feet. He does, he will be serviceable if he doesn't score.

What a game by Slaf. If it really all just clicked in his head and he starts playing like this every night, it really changes the trajectory of his development to unicorn status imo.

Not to get to ahead but imagine having 3 unicorns on one team in Slaf, Demidov, and Hutson.

Watching this team in its prime will be something else man.

Monty made some big saves late to stop Ottawa from getting momentum.

Slaf took a big hit, but beat up Greig. Guy can't hit and always throws the arms up

It was frustrating to watch. There were a couple times 4 on 4 where the Habs just allowed guys to walk in on montembeault for no reason.

They were in position but they just did nothing.

5 points from a WC spot, somehow.

That's a massive gap

He definitely was. In fact he was the best player on the ice, of both teams

For me it's not exactly the hits I'm looking for, it's the speed in which he closes down on guys. The urgency and determination in his game.

Not quitting on back pressuring a guy because the offensive play died.

When there's a loose puck, don't go into the battle with the intention of scooping the puck and making a perfect pass, go into it with urgency and put your big behind in between the opponent and the puck and then make your play. Imagine having a 6'4 230 lbs man just hounding you all game, no Diddy.

It's those little things that will allow his little bit of skill to come through and extend his line's offensive zone time.

It is, but less than I expected and not unsurmontable.

I'd still say our of odds of having a pre-lottery top 6 pick are higher than making the playoffs but both outcomes are still similarly achievable.

5 points is hard enough.... but there's also 5 teams to jump over and the team below them is right at their neck too.

Yeah, I've rarely seen too many teams packed like that close to the playoffs
I still can't figure out if it means we're actually half decent despite our (massive) flaws or if its just giving us the illusion of being close.

Believe it or not, there ARE players who play like that every night.

He's 6'3 225. He needs to play like it.

I liked the fact he said he needs to play like BT and gave that effort .
Means at least for tonight he fully gets it .
