Post-Game Talk: Habs defeat Sabres in OT

5 wins streak.

1 win against the Sharks on 3 vs 3 pond hockey
2 wins against Buffalo with one of them in a 3 vs 3 pond hockey.

Easy shit opponents will put us in no mans land. Easy schedule will f*** us over.
meh a 3 lose in a row pretty much kicks them back off. The second a team stops suzuki line we lose. also id rather trade the first picks if we draft around 10-15. Get a real second center and find a dman somewhere

They got the win, good. Young club will learn. People here seem to forget that our top 4 players in points are aged between 20 to 25. This is a very young team, 2nd youngest in the league. Those situations will happen.

But they won. And playing meaningful games so late in the season, which was the main goal at the start. Enjoy it!
We got caught slow tonight. The Sabres are quick team and we had too many players who are, to put it mildly, not fleet of foot. Laine, Gallagher, Savard, Armia and Xhekaj are, at best, average skaters. You can get away with a couple of slow pokes but when over 25% of your skaters aren’t superior skaters you get what you saw tonight.

I’m sure Hughes took note. Or, at least, I hope he did.

As much as this game pissed me off teams blowing 3 goal leads isn’t rare. People act like Montreal is the only team that does it. Anyone have a stat on what teams in the league lead in blown 3 goal leads?

Savard and Armia are likely gone, so that will help.

Gallagher had a M-NTC, so probably can't even trade him for another bad contract that fits the Habs mold better.

The only good news with keeping Gallagher until the end of his contract is having a player play out his career here, but part of that is because he got a bloated contract and dipped in production.

Habs watched the 2nd and 3rd periods, as the Sabres were flying by them.............it was strange.
This team struggles when they jump out to a lead ( remember the leafs game, ouch )
The habs spent 2 periods standing around, wanting the game to be over.

Matheson saved them in OT.
Kudos to Suzuki and Hutson who both had a nice game.

Alcohol lol but the crowd was dead most of the game
The Bell Centre just doesn't seem to have much going on anymore........the losing since 2017 has taken the life out of the building, most nights.

I was in support of another top-8 draft pick this year, but honestly I’m completely happy we “in the mix”.

Ugly game? Yes, we still clearly have coaching issues and big holes in a lot of areas.

However, we did take a step forward this year, which is all we can ask. Sure, we’ll probably get blasted in the playoffs if we make it, but it would be funny AF if somehow we faced the Leafs. I would take that bet.

Please don't do a 3-0 lead. Not again. Please. Thank you for your understanding.

Team goes on a 5 win streak while Suzuki gets 13 points in like 5 games

shocking
Suzuki 13 pts in 5 games. (4 goals)
Hutson 7 pts in 5 games. (1 goals)
Caufield 6 pts in 5 games. (4 goals)
Laine 6 pts in 5 games. (2 goals)
Slaf 5 pts in 5 games. (3 goals)

These 5 have 14 of the 21 goals scored over the last 5 games. Very much a 1 line team+ PP1 right now.

Once they cool off again, the season landing will probably not be pretty.

We know an inevitable collapse is coming but at least it’s not like years previous where the season was over in November.

It’s encouraging to the core and honestly to impending UFAs across the league as well.

McDrai will have a field day on Thursday!

The Oil aren't too hot right now BTW.

No way we'll win 6 after tonight's performance.

Yeah, don't worry sweetheart, I'm sure we'll crater again and you won't have to worry or care about the Habs again.

Not a good win. Basically watched Montreal as if they’re on the pk for 40 mins. I feel bad for anyone who paid to watch that shit

You guys do understand that teams often lose games they should win or win games they should lose right? Lucky bounce here and there can change the results. The better team doesn't always win. I mean do some of you guys never watch sports?

We don’t have Price this time. I wouldn’t want a series loss to them, we at least have bragging rights right now.

I'm really getting sick and tired of people "mismembering" those playoffs. Price was good not great and our BIG four D-men were a much bigger factor in our success. Those teams simply didn't have an answer for them.

One win vs SJ
Two win vs Buffalo

Yes, yes the Habs all suck. We shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as those super-teams like the Bruins, the Rags, CBJ, DET or OTT. We should all just turtle and hope to get a bunch of high picks in this weak draft year.

Without Price... I'm not sure it ends the same way. We have a better overall team than we did but Price stole that series.

Agree to disagree.

But we just beat the Sharks and BUF x2? I mean sure we probably won't the make show but guys like you don't seem to want make the show. Wanting to crap on the Habs so bad. *smh* It was far from a perfect game but if Suzuki keeps playing like he is... Look at our next opponent EDM, they're overall a crappy team but they also happen to have 2 of the best players in the league. And if those guys play well there's a good chance they'll win despite the rest of the club.

I didn’t say he was the only reason but you really think if he was hurt and we had to start Jake Allen against the Leafs that the "Big 4" on D would have been enough

Price had a .932 SV% against Toronto that series and faced 33 shots a game. A .945 SV% in the 3 straight wins to beat them.

I understand that but it doesn’t mean it’s okay. That’s a loser mentality

It feels good being a few days from the TDL and still in the playoff mix.

The last few years, we were pretty much out of it around the holidays. Last year, we held on a bit longer until mid-January. This year, TDL is 4 days away, Habs have 1 game left, and we are very much in the fray.

Meaningful games for as long as possible.

This is a step we absolutely needed to take this year if we want to make the playoffs next year. And we did.

A few months in, it looked like the season was going to be a complete waste. But despite burying ourselves into a deep hole, we managed to climb back out somehow. This is even better than flirting with the playoffs the whole year imo, it would have been easy to just give up but the guys didn't.

Now lets find a 2C before the start of the next season. This will be the 1st year that I expect something decently big from Kent. Let'ssee if he can pull it off.

We have 11 players with 10 goals or more and while most of them aren't superstars, it does show that we have been getting contributions right through the lineup. We also lost our number one D and despite that we have a 5 game winning streak. Add Demidov and a decent second center to this group and we are in business.

They've got contributions from all over the lineup since the break. Matheson, Dvorak, Newhook and Struble have 3 points in 5 games plus Anderson has 2 goals.

Suzuki's hot play has been a major reason to the success, but almost every line and the defence are also contributing.
