Yeah, tonight was the team we saw last year. Working hard, generating chances. It’s what I expected to see this year. Better late than never.
First time I enjoyed watching a game this season. Our goaltending was great, defence actually looked in control, and the forwards played well despite being up against a hot goalie. They actually looked like they were playing structured hockey and not just skating around like zombies.

Slafkovsky looked motivated to be playing with Laine. He was very intense and into the action tonight.
I laughed at Slaf he needs to clue in to a few things like you don't use a slapshot to dump a puck in for a change. :banghead:
A couple of shifts later Hutson comes to the line with the exact same play however his LOB allows him to reach the bench almost before the puck lands.
Details like that say a lot about a player.

Caufield seems like a proper glue guy. You can never have enough of those in a team or in a band (personal experience)

I understand people defending Dach by saying he needs to find his skating again, but he should be doing so outside the top 6. It isn't fair to him or his linemates to be in that position if he isn't 100%.
Okay.

But who’s our 2nd line center?

Honestly, I don’t think we have a choice but to let him work through this. Hopefully Laine helps him. He needs to score a goal in the worst way. A couple of points and maybe he can find some confidence.

Hello! So this was my first game for watching habs very long time. The game was tight, Islanders were on their form, this was not easy one at all. Looked like a post season match. Habs looks like playoff team which is good. But there is a problem, besides PP which looked dangerous, none of the lines generated anything in the whole game. There was one possession in the third but thats all. Lines needs to be re-assembled seriously.

Well everyone did pretty well,

Monty made aime big saves

Dach, Slaf and Laine had a few good shifts
Laine still as some catching up to do, but clearly the skills are there.

Matheson, Hutson and Xhekaj had a pretty good game.

Since when are player not responsable for there stick I understand not giving 4 but no penalty at all that was weird…

I think Slaf played ok. Arbs, other than that poorly judge play at the blue line that led to his penalty was ok too. I wish Slaf didn't slow down before throwing a hit and just barreled through the player he is intending to hit.

Dach... man, I don't know. I am so sick of him. Every single regime Habs have, there is a small group of players that just can't leave soon enough. Dach, Newhook, Matheson, Dvo, ... Something needs to be done. Hughes needs to be more active. Da playoffs are still possible.

Why would you get rid of Matheson? Isn’t it too early to get rid of Dach and Newhook?

Or shall we purge every 20 games?

You guys are going to have fun with Laine. His shots is something you can truly say is generational. Huges took advantage of Waddell.
Holy shit, did you just give a Hab player a compliment? Threw me for a loop since I only see you in the main board bashing anything Hab related.

I don't think. Laine had (and maybe still has) serious psychological problems. Waddell knows what and that's why he provided him with a new beginning.

Dach needs to stop doing the Mailloux play where he loses the puck cleanly in situations where no one can cover. The habs, as a young team, have given up a ridiculous number of goals following giveaways, and many players have a few, but Dach has been doing it constantly and badly. The only difference last night is that Monty made the save. His plus/minus is deserved, as he’s generally not that bad other than coughing up the puck at terrible times. He’s really driving the tank.

Last night they had a decent game against a bad team. The opposing goalie was good but it’s not like they forced him to star. They gave up chances but Montambeault was good. Nice to see Laine score, but the play is similar to games where they lost badly to good teams. It’s only year 3 of the rebuild, give the young guys some time. Get Dach to work out his game and that will save probably a goal against per game considering the impact on the flow those plays have.

I'd switch Andy and Armia, simply due to the success that 3rd line had last year. And how MSL hasn't given Heineman a shot on the top line... Dude deserves it a lot more that Newhook does at this point.
MSL did use Heineman on the top line for one game. It didn't stick.

Not only is there no viable 2C alternative, but he may need to learn to play a new style. If he can't regain his speed, he may have to be a more cerebral type of player and slow down the game like Suzuki. Playing with no talent wont help him re-define his game.
