Yhea. 'Cause a coach has NOTHING to do with the performance of his players.
Nothing at all. Coach are entirely useless. No effect at all.
Well, PK-Eller-Bourque had terrible years, and all season long we've heard how it wasn't on Therrien from some people, now that they're doing well, he should get praises?
Personally, I don't believe in extremes and I feel it's a case by case situation. Therrien deserves some credit. This team is very focused, and he deserves some props for that, no doubt.
Bourque, there wasn't much to do with him this year. He only has himself to blame for his poor work this year, and I'll give him props for bouncing back in the POs.
Eller, many were displeased with the clear double standard and favoritism DD got over him during the season. To many it made no sense. Therrien though, never really criticized Eller this year. I think he knew he was giving the short end of the stick to Eller which is why he didn't scratch him until late in the year, and just for a game. Once he put Gionta with him, it got better. As many have always argued, give Eller some decent offensive wingers, and he'll do well, which is why people wanted to see what he'd do if he has even better wingers and a more offensive role. Therrien failed to give him that though. Right now he currently leads our forwards in scoring. Props to both but Therrien made a mistake not using him better this season.
Price, I fail to see what Therrien has to do with him. He has his own coach, Waite.
Subban, I give close to no credit to Therrien with him. There was a clear correlation between when PK started struggling and Therrien bashing him publicly. It wasn't a coincidence. He played hardball with PK all year. PK looked like a player very confused, trying to play a certain way that is clearly not suited for him. When he tried to have it his way, he got punished for it. It's probably the first time we saw a Norris winner get benched.
Playoffs start and PK is a changed man. The leash has been taken off. He's back to playing like his Norris self, except even better. Arguably the best player of the NHL playoffs. He's simply a beast out there. Don't know what Therrien told him or what he decided to change, but there's a very distinct change in the way Therrien is handling him in the PO, so kudos to him for recognizing he had to change his ways. But that's like saying kudos for not making a mistake, kind of a weak compliment.
All in all, Therrien deserves some credit, so do the players. I wouldn't go as far as to say props to Therrien for the way PK-Price-Eller-Bourque have played though, it's not all on him. What I have no problem giving him credit for, as I said, is the mental focus our team seem to have. These guys are on a freaking mission, you can see and feel it.
