I thought he looked pretty solid, especially in the 3rd. Looked better than most of the guys we’ve tried in that role.

Columbus is a rare team in this race where montreal actually is in a good tiebreaker position. If they can tie them, they move ahead of them.

Exactly. Glad I'm not the only one who saw Joshua playing better in the 3rd. The guy has barely played an NHL game this season. The gap is huge. He will improve.
Many of The same posters complaining and nitpicking about the game -a road win in mid-March against a team fighting for their playoff life despite being concensus playoff pick roster going into the season, also pegged our healthy roster to be a bottom 5 team with no shot of the playoffs back in September...

Montreal needs regulation wins. Too many teams in this race have a tiebreaker edge on Montreal.

He looked like an NHLer tonight. Far cry from impact top 6, sure, but for a 21-yr old kid with less than 30 games under his belt called up in the middle of the pressure packed playoff push.... it was a very good night.

Guhle is apparently listed week to week which would be a massive boost to this club.
The recipe for them to have a shot to get in will basically be heavy reliance on the top line for offense while keeping things tight through the other lines.
I'm skeptical but I'm enjoying talking playoff prospects in March.

At some point you have to debate to break up the top line just to have some kind of depth because this is unsustainable. But also breaking the only thing that works is so ballsy.

When they were fully healthy, they were getting contributions from all over the place and beating the best teams over and over. But as I said back then, the depth is not as great as it seemed because there were too many injury scenarios which would have significantly impacted the club.
I certainly had guhle on the list of players they couldn't afford to lose, but kudos to them for still managing to stay in the hunt for now.
Habs have the most players in the league with 10+ goals.
Depth isn't the issue, top 6/top 4 talent is the issue. With Laine, Dach & Guhle out, our already young/mediocre top 6/top 4 is stretched brutally thin
Newhook, Gally, Roy... That was our 2nd line
Matheson played 27+min & Strubbles was our 4th D in ice time.
Our roster depth is a strength, if anything.
Pick just about any playoff team in the league and remove their highest paid forward, #1D & #2C...
MacKinnon, Makar, Nelson
McDavid, Nurse, RNH
Ovechkin, Carlson, PLD
Scheifele, Vilardi, Morrissey

I don't think that it'll make a difference. Suzuki was being double shifted in 3rd when Pezz was sat. He couldn't do anything on the other lines.
Meanwhile, he is aces with CC & Slaf. Talent needs to play with talent.
Having said that, you could move Heineman to Suzuki line & move Slafkovsky to Newhook-Gallagher line. He would give them a board presence.
Move Roy to the Evans-Armia line and Laine with Dvo & Anderson.

MSL has done a great job getting the team focused to play the kind of hockey this roster needs to play right now to be successful...
All 3 games on this road trip have been similar. Tight, conservative, counter attack focused play. While some fans complain about the low shot totals, reality is that it's by design.
we just don't have the horses to go tit for tat with most teams. But the compete level and execution discipline we're seeing is fantastic. Bodes well for the future... One where we aren't stuck playing Matheson 27min or Gally in the top 6

Generally speaking yes you need more then 1 line if you want to do much but I don't think now is the right time to be experimenting, so long as we are in the mix the line should stay together.

You know what's funny to me? For YEARS we've needed a 1st line center, we had multiple 2nd line ones. Now we (seemingly) have solved the 1st line center but... Now have been in dire need of a 2nd line center. This is like whackamole. Plug one hole and another props up.
Pezzetta needs to go now that the games matter. He's a soldier and a good teammate but his time is done in the CH. Honestly just call up condotta
If you think that out C depth, both NHL roster and org depth chart, is the same caliber as 3 years ago...
MB spent 10 years and made zero progress in either, we've seen a marked improvement in just 3yrs with the current regime. I get patience is hard, but come on...
