Well, that was quite a couple of minutes for Montembeault. Takes a delay of game penalty by dropping the puck as if to play it but then covers it. Then loses his stick while defending the pk.

All ends well.

It doesn't really change anything. SF is reseeded. US is top team, so they'll play Germany. US went undefeated.

Canada will play Sweden in SF, if they beat Finland today.

So if the goalie catches the puck the play is immediately dead?
Yeah he can hold the puck but he can't drop it and then cover it which is just stupid. You want goaltenders trying to keep the play moving.
 
It's an international rule. That's not a penalty in NHL. Seems silly to me.
Like the boarding rule. Seider booted in the earlier game for boarding. Thier should be some leeway in the rule. Seider comes in to hit the Swiss player who is working the puck while parallel to the boards. Seconds form the hit he turns and faces the boards. They should be able to call a 2 min penalty.
I am all for making all hits into the boards illegal and in the IIHF they might as well do that.
