Knies-Matthews-Marner
Jarnkrok-Nylander-Domi
Bertuzzi-Tavares-Lafferty
Gregor-Kampf-Reaves

Why split a line who was the best leafs line in knies-JT and lafferty

If you can have 3 good line able to contribute, you will much harder to beat than with only 2 producing line
I know it’s only preseason, but the total lack of effort against an inferior team is disturbing. They should be embarrassed but I know they’re not.

Like you said its pre season... watch wich player you saw the most on both team

It was nylander, domi, knies, lafferty, gregor liljegren...

on habs side, Dach, Monahan, RHP, norlinder

It was player who had something to prove...

He is not allowed to be casual. He needs to earn a spot.

He’s got a spot. I don’t know what you’re talking about. We signed him for a reason, he isn’t getting sent down. I didn’t think he was casual, he looked relaxed and having fun out there. That’s what I want to see. Out of all the free agents domi looks the most comfortable and natural right now.

All you p***yes who live anywhere but winterpeg or the territories need to shut up

Edit: Spelling p***y with an -IES auto changes it to a -YES
Winnipeg is just stupid and some days you can’t even go outside. But it‘s still a myth that it’s always warm in NHL sunbelt. Come on down to North AL in February when HS and college baseball starts and tell me it’s not miserable. Like I said, Ive seen Canadians with hand warmers in their gloves and pockets and sitting by a propane heater.

My concerns before preseason, during preseason, and after preseason remain the same:

1. Sheldon Keefe is still the coach and I don’t think he’s good enough. Should have been fired after the Montreal series loss. You can’t expect anything different from the same coach, and we are seeing the same thing again.

2. Brodie and Gio are extremely worrying. Gio needs to be done. Toting the oldest player in the league isn’t some badge of honour and he’s looked bad. Brodie looks horrible from the Florida series. We have almost $6 million tied up on these 2 guys, both UFA’s. Add to it Klingberg is also a UFA and woof…. Use the money to bring in a legit RHD and Move on from both and let Liljegren, Timmins, and Benoit develop. Gio and Brodie both look like they are only going to get worse as the season goes on. Deal with them now and get someone in who is a part of plan moving forward.

It is never too cold to go outside. I've shoveled snow in shorts at minus -35 (true story - a challenge to wear shorts for a year straight during the pandemic).

If you wear gloves everything else takes care of itself!

...

Watched bit of the game, fast-forwarded the entire game, maybe it looked better if you slowed it down, but it wasn't pretty speeding through.

Blowing a 2 goal lead ... getting scored on early and late, Matthews getting owned in overtime, is it preseason or is it just a replay of the same issues.

Disgusted with our Leafs. They will NOT be winning jack-shit this season if they can't beat the Habs with their top players playing.

The Habs and Sens will be all over these over paid Prima donna core 4.

Trade Samsonov and keep Jones and Woll as our starting goalie tandem.

I know, I know, it WAS ONLY a preseason game, however I hate losing to the Habs and Sens even in preseason !!!

Relax, it was what? 36 hours ago that the Marlies beat the habs.

This was the full teams first game together in months, and even this wasn't the full team.

Let them knock off the rust, it will be fine.

Timmins can't develop because he can't stay on the ice.

Moving on from Brodie and Gio is one thing but you don't do it so Timmins can develop because he's not going to happen.

You have to use the money saved from Brodie and Gio to bring in a piece.

I thought the plan last season was to win a round and use that good will to take a step back, rebuild the D and decide on Matthews and Nylander.

Brodie cannot be as bad as he shown in the past 10 games, including pre-season. If he is, then it could be long season and they shorten the Matthews era window.

What good will? That evaporated with the loss in the 2nd round where they barely showed up

I am still seeing the EXACT SAME glaring problems and holes with this team guys.

Its only 1 game where the regulars dressed, but it’s feeling like deja vu.

You said It yourself it's the first game the regulars have all played together in months, and not even all the regulars, no Jarnkrok, no Klingberg just to name a couple.

Let's let them knock off the rust.

1- everycoach are too bad until they get succes

Cooper wqs not enough good until he won 2 back a back cup

Maurice was trash until last season

Quenneville before winning cup was considerate like average coach

2- Who? Best RHD available on free market next free agency are montour, klinberg, tanev, Roy, myers, demelo ...

Damn man, Robertson doesn't look good.
I agree, of all players on the bubble, he and Benoit disappointed me the most. I want to see Benoit be a bit more aggressive. I know Bertuzzi will be better but he's not on the bubble. As much as I'd like Robertson to start the season with the big boys, I think he's going down.

They certainly didn’t maintain it, but I expected going into the playoffs they win a round then bow out easy, and they would addressed the holes that prevented them from being competitive in the 2nd round.

I can easily see a path that will never allow them to be legit contenders.

Guys you want to know why they lost last night and why the concern is misplaced?

They didn't lose because they defense wasn't good enough they lost because.

Tavares 70.6%
Kampf 36.4%
Matthews 30.8%
Domi 28.6%
Nylander 25%

Do you know what that is? I bet you do.

That, boys and girls is the faceoff win%.

They lost because Tavares aside, who was absolutely dominant in the dot, nobody else could win a f***ing faceoff.

Hell nobody else hit 40% in the dot

Domi and Nylander didn't even hit 30% and Matthews BARELY hit 30%

Tavares aside they got DOMINATED in the faceoff circle.

Everbody talking about the defense and how old Brodie and Gio looked, nah.

You are looking in the wrong spot, they couldn't win a faceoff unless It was Tavares.

Some wild takes after a pre-season game.

Happy no one got injured.

The top guys showed skill but maybe lacked effort, not too worried when the games mean absolutely nothing.

If the fans think the pre-season is too long, imagine how the players feel.

People thinking we lose a ton of games when leading into the 3rd are wrong. We are around the middle of the pack, I think people's opinion is distorted because we are winning a lot going into the 3rd.

We were leading 44 times going into the 3rd last year (2nd most), lost 7 of those times, but only 2 in regulation. Some teams had crazy a win % like Boston (47-1-2), but we are around the Colorado/Edmonton/Florida level. It is not that bad.

We had the highest win % when trailing after the 1st, and we only trailed in 23 games (not great, but not terrible).

Brodie was bad
Sammy was not good
McCabe was totally out of it
The TO social club enjoyed their skate. I know it is pre season but guys like Domi have not yet earned the privilege to just be so casual. I know it is home town, but he needs to realize much is expected. He has failed at 6 other teams to be valued and as far as I am concerned he is on the same level as Lafferty. He needs to make the team or go home to daddy.
WN talent allows him to be casual, Domi little smirk is not earned.
I'd say Sammy was pretty good, but could have been better. A couple of deflections and a couple of blown coverages (Lilly and JT).

Domi's smirk is supposed to upset the other team's fans, not ours. :sarcasm:

The D could be a bigger concern than we originally thought.

I don’t expect we’ll see Tavares on the ice protecting a 1 goal lead in the last minute, but overall I didn’t think they were very good. If Brodie wasn’t playing with 75% effort last night, they could be in big trouble.
Dumb as it may seem, I think they had JT out there for the hat-trick. Hope Keefe is smarter in the real games.

Most fans on this site (and in general) are incredibly and obnoxiously myopic. They seemingly have no ability whatsoever to understand that virtually ever single complaint they lobby at this team can be said for every other team in the league, and usually to far greater extents than the leafs. Perspective is completly lost on >90% of the posters here.

Lost FO’s definitely impacted possession but to say that is the only reason why they lost is overly simplistic.

Come on, you know that just as Tavares is not a 70% faceoff guy, Matthews is not a 30% one. AM34 & the other Cs will get back to normal once the season gets rolling, that's pretty much a lock. That Gio and Brodie will be better isn't.

Personnel-wise the blue line is far and away this team's biggest concern.

I have no doubt that Matthews and Kampfwill get back to normal, I'm less convinced with Nylander and Domi because they are wingers taking faceoffs but even they won't be at 28% and 25%, and if they are put their assess on Tavares wing where they should be.

I don't actually care about the result of this game because it's a pre season game.

But if you are upset at least be upset for the right reason that being that they couldn't win a f***ing faceoff unless It was Tavares.
