GDT: Habs at Leafs Pre-season game #6 Monday, October 2nd 7pm SN

One of the positives has been Liljegren's play. Has played big mins in the pre season and both special teams. Looking at his zone starts, he's gotten the most defensive zone starts, and most offensive zone starts too. If Keefe can not mess with his confidence again, and just let him play, that would be good.

The defense though still needs some work. Kyper was right, still not nearly enough toughness back there. Shame Schenn wouldn't re-sign because guys like that are hard to come by, and this team needs his physicality badly.

Schenn and Rielly really were the perfect 1-2 punch there. I was very pissed when he went to Nash.

Robertson looked ... unready.
Willy may have been our best player.
Domi may be mainly a passer, but he'd better be ready to receive if he's with Willy.
Lilly looked very good, apart from the blown coverage in OT.
Matty and Mitch to start OT? Keefe hasn't learned?
Nice recovery by JT on his first goal.
Can't blame Sammy too much (although I know some will try).
Knies looked really good.
Lafferty looked good.
Kokkonen was impressively unnoticeable.

Kelce and Mahomes looking tired, no worthwhile receivers, a lame offensive line...Swift is the best thing KC has going for them right now.

Samsonov served up a real stinker. The whole team did. Not only did they not show up on time.

They checked out early too.

I know it's just pre-season. But these are old habits. Time and again it's the same thing.

The Leafs play down to their opponents.

I thought the new guys were gonna change that. It's clear they can't play good hockey. But they were supposed to be "good in the locker room" type guys.

Turns out you still get what you pay for.

Benoit is a useless turd. I was completely wrong about him. He's overpaid even at league minimum.

There aren't enough intangibles in the world to make up for his on ice stink.

Brodie was bad
Sammy was not good
McCabe was totally out of it
The TO social club enjoyed their skate. I know it is pre season but guys like Domi have not yet earned the privilege to just be so casual. I know it is home town, but he needs to realize much is expected. He has failed at 6 other teams to be valued and as far as I am concerned he is on the same level as Lafferty. He needs to make the team or go home to daddy.
WN talent allows him to be casual, Domi little smirk is not earned.

I know it’s only preseason, but the total lack of effort against an inferior team is disturbing. They should be embarrassed but I know they’re not.

The D could be a bigger concern than we originally thought.

I don’t expect we’ll see Tavares on the ice protecting a 1 goal lead in the last minute, but overall I didn’t think they were very good. If Brodie wasn’t playing with 75% effort last night, they could be in big trouble.

Timing was off a little but that’ll come. The last thing they need is to read the Leafs marketing and press clippings and think the Atlantic theirs already.

If the stars align correctly they won’t have to play Carolina or the Rangers.

Brodie is looking like he might become the new whipping boy that the Leafs always seem to have on D.
 
I thought the Leafs played a pretty good game. They’re going to be a difficult challenge for the majority of teams with the 3 lines they’re going to put out there. Knies continues to look like he’s going to be a force. I think Bertuzzi hasn’t kicked it into gear yet. Samsonov will be better or we’re looking at the same problem as last season, weak goals. Not worried, we just stopped skating, it won’t happen starting next week.
