I forgot we had him lol...I forgot we had Slaf too, had to make a ninja edit. We're deep but no star forwards.

Yah I forgot about Slaf lol, I edited him in afterwards...I don't want Slaf playing with Dvo either, I think Dvo should be traded for futures or help on D because he's too good for the 4th line but we don't need him on the 3rd since others can fill in.
I think Heineman makes the team

Shoutout to OP for calling the Michkov pick, we probs won't draft him but we might have a very good opportunity to do so

Wonder what our forwards would look like right now, before heading into the draft and UFA

Caufield - Suzuki - Anderson
Newhook - Dach - RHP
Slafkovsky - Dvorak - Monahan
Armia - Evans - Ylonen
Hoffman

I think Armia and Hoffman should be gone so we'll see if anything happens there...thinking Dvorak is tradeable too since we have guys that can fill into that #3C spot, maybe Evans (hoping last year was an off year) but left all 3 in since they're still on the team.

Inserted Ylonen but depends on if he has a good camp or not.

Wanted to leave Slaf and Monahan together since he played really well with Monahan. Would roll all 3 lines for 15+ mins each, then give the balance of EV time to the 4th line.
Slaf - Suzuki -Caufield
Newhook - Dach - Monahan
RHP - Dvorak - Anderson
Armia - Evans - Gallagher
Ylonen - Pezzetta

Hoffman - Pitlick both on waivers/Laval

I'm assuming Eddy and Hoffman are gone. I also think Pitlick is gone. Maybe Dvorak and Armia but that's too many contracts to move. So for a cap space projection, I'll say only Eddy, Hoffman, and Pitlick are off loaded.

24 players with a little over $12M in cap space. I wonder if we are going to be able to not have Price on LTIR before the season starts this year. That's has to be a goal for Gorton/Hughes. Move him to LTIR after the season starts and there is way more flexibility and we can accrue cap space which can be used to help cap hell teams.

To the nit pick style posters... this is a cap space exercise. I'll bold it in case you don't read. haha.

Yeah, I think they got Newhook for Dach. Put Newhook in a shooter role. He has a good shot.
Their idea is to definitely fit him in a top six role. I'd also love to see him as a puck carrier on PP one. I love Suzuki but he just doesn't generate enough speed to put fear in the eyes of the defenders. I'd also love to see them use that flying V instead of the drop back. I found it reasonably effective against the trap which is basically what a modern day PK is a poor mans trap in the neutral zone.

Just wanted to add that the reason I chose these lines is that it avoids 2 small players on the same line, as well it tries to keep pairings that worked well together Suzuki-Caulfield, RHP-Anderson, and try to create a 3rd one with Newhook-Dach

This thread is only viable after the draft.

IF Philly want Michkov and we trade, we may have Foerster and Leonard in the line-up.

Plus I see Mailoux as ready for NHL level protected minutes. As if we don't have enough defenseman who need protected minutes!

As far as I'm concerned, waive Hoffman....and let the crows have dinner!

Slaf Suz Cole
Monahan Dach Newhook
RHP Dvorak Anderson
Pez Evans Armia
Gallagher

Gurianov, Hoffman likely get traded. Pitlick is an easy slide to Laval.

That third line looks good though. I don't remember the last time, the Habs had a good third line. A lot of ifs with Slaf, Monahan, Dach and Newhook.

So not much time to let the dust settle from the draft...free agency opens on Saturday.

Can we expect HuGo to be busy?

I was expecting some vets moved at the draft but nothing on that front.

I'm not expecting a whole yet in free agency.

They are gonna have to move some bodies eventually.

Hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I love Monahan when he is on the ice. Unfortunately, it seems that becomes less and less likely. But I’m hopeful he can stay healthy. But if and when we can take off is when we see both Slaf and Newhook take off. I assume Cole, Suz, and Dach (assuming all healthy) are a given. And I’m hopeful RHP was no fluke last year.

All the other bottom 6 guys are 🙏🏻🙏🏻🫣🫣

I see them hiring big bodies for Laval: Imama and-or Viel. That's about it.

Reading this just hurts my soul. What an opportunity missed.
If Reinbacher pans out he'll help a ton. Imagine two Guhle's, one on each of our top two pairs, such that either Reinbacher or Guhle are on the ice 50 out of 60 minutes every game.

Not sure where we're going to get that next star forward though.

As a habs fan I hope you are right and that he becomes amazing. Unfortunately, if he ends up being a 3rd pair D, that eats minutes, while others are scoring 30+ goals a year, its going to hurt a lot.

Sounds bleak ngl

4th straight year with a bottom of the barrel PP? Nothing changed. Oh yea Drouin will be replaced by Newhook for the last 25 seconds of PP2.

This is my guess

Edit: our 2/3 lines are interchangeable to me in terms of TOI. I liked RHP with Anderson last year and think SlaF will take a step.

I expect us to finish in the bottom 8-12 range

For me to be ok with the pick, Reinbacher has to be in the same ball park as Michkov in terms of how much he impacts the game.

Anything short of that and I'll be disappointed in our scouting staff. It's really them that finds and pitches the talent.

We need to stay healthy. Caufield, Suzuki, Dach, Monahan, Matheson, and RHP are all good PP players.
